Fitting 5.25" speakers in the rear
Had anyone tried to modify the rear brackets to fit a larger speaker? 3.5" is a pretty depressing variety of speaker.

Yes.
Better question why? Want more bass add a subwoofer. No other way to get around it. Either shallow mount small all-in-one unit. Or a big ass duel 12" in ported box. But go on and try it. You'll all come to the conclusion that you need a subwoofer.

You're going to have to create a custom mount, either wood or MDF. If you access to a 3D printer, even better. Plenty of room in there to fit the speaker, just as long as the magnet isn't super-big. Be sure to line the metal area around it with some Dynamat (or even that spray-on rubber stuff works) to reduce vibrations.

No good reason to keep speakers in the sides unless you build boxes... They probably add some midrange fill, and it won't really what you put in there (without containment) - you'll only get midrange because there's just no managing the pressure off the back.
As noted, plenty of space. Little value.

There was a post on here from someone who made a 6.5 bracket for the rear, and posted the files. Probably could find it fairly quickly by searching 3d print and speaker. Idk that that will help though as you'd need to modify it to be 5.25

I'll update them for 5.25 and make a post with a link to the file. |
