We're talking about new cars, with new technology, warranties and that actually look decent among today's newer cars on the road.

32/38 mpg and 60 hp vs 53/46 mpg and 99hp Prius C[?] $18k ottp at local dealer in red/orange.

Prius isn't so bad in driving. I enjoy it. If I wanted more fun, id get another ae86 and sh!t on it 24/7...or till it gets stolen.

Tesla 250 miles/charge.... vs 400+ miles Prius C at half price.....

Sure it's not a 'Tesla,' but at least it doesnt look warped and morbid. These full on electric cars are not my thing... I like the quietness, but thats about it. Here in CenCal, they are barely making charging parking spots public. We're not ready for them and at the 30k (33-35k OTTDP imho), I'd rather go for a fully equipped Camry hybrid. That, or a old wrx/sti and a 2001 1zzfe corolla. Maybe even a ugly Civic.

Prius > Prius C. It's 5k or 33% more for a 100% better car.

But I'd rather have an electric. The last time I drove 400 miles in a day was when i drove to socal. I do that less than once a year. Screw dat.

The Tesla Model 3 pre-orders continue to pour in as the company has received more than 325,000 reservations in the past week.

This represents approximately $14 billion in potential sales but it's important to note each reservation simply required a refundable deposit of $1,000. Regardless, Tesla claims that within the first 24 hours it received more than 180,000 reservations for the model which set the "record for the highest single-day sales of any product of any kind ever in world history." We're sure a number of other companies would like to protest that statement including Sony which sold a million PlayStation 4 gaming consoles in the United States on its first day of availability.

The automaker went on to say the $14 billion in implied future sales makes the Model 3 the "single biggest one-week launch of any product ever." Tesla notes this is an impressive achievement as interest was generated organically as the company didn't engage in advertising or pay for any endorsements.

As the company explained, "This has been a true grassroots effort driven by the passion of the Tesla team that’s worked so hard to get to this point and our current and future customers who believe so strongly in what we are trying to achieve."

As a token of appreciation, Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed customers who lined up at stores on launch day will be getting a special gift in the mail. There's no word on what customers can expect but Musk said he was only expecting between 20-30 people to lineup at stores and not 800.

As a refresher, the Model 3 accelerates from 0-60 miles per hour in less than six seconds and can travel up to 215 miles on a single charge. Pricing starts at $35,000 and the company is increasing its production plans to minimize waiting times in the wake of unprecedented demand.

I drove one of these Model 3 dohickeys today.

My brother just received his long range model with interior upgrade and autopilot. It's slick, comfortable, and fast. It is beyond easy to drive quickly, and get used to in short time. It's a lot like driving an iPhone, lol.

Too bad it's way more than I want to pay for a car. I also didn't like that just about everything is controlled through the touch screen...perhaps they will add a few more controls in future models.

There is a strange joy in silently thrashing a 2013-14? Camaro SS without
issue...

The model 3 I drove has 310 miles of range. You can drive it hard and still get home.

My brother, the one who actually owns and drives it everyday, says that the range figures have been accurate. Perhaps you should have some real experience with one before spouting off nonsense. In the time I was driving it spiritedly, the range indicator went from 180 ish miles left to 171 ish. That was a good half hour of driving...

310 miles averaging 55mph in an electric car is actually really good. The EPA current standard averages something closer to 35-40 and they raised it due to complaints. I've heard that at low speeds they do even better.

The brake regeneration actually helped increase the range a bit while driving (so some mileage was reclaimed then expended again during hard driving). Also, that half hour or so included some traffic and red light stops here and there.

Well, how far do you think you went? I don't call averaging 18 mph a spirited drive. Yes, electric vehicles do very well in stop and go, but you aren't going to travel 300 miles in those conditions (assuming the car could do it).

Crimony, we had to sit at some lights and some traffic on the freeway to get to some open places and empty roads... it's called traffic. We did several short bursts from slow rolls and dead stops to high speeds. Sorry, I don't have the patience to explain every little detail to an obvious Tesla hater. I just came on here to give my impression since I enjoyed stomping on it, and hadn't seen any driving impressions posted on here lately.
