It's small and not hurting anything but once I know it's there, I find myself starring at it more often than I should, it's almost become a distraction. The longer I wait, the less likely Subaru will cover it, right? I went to another dealer and they submitted it to Subaru and will let me know in a few days.

Damn I too have 2 parallel scratches on the driver window, all the lenght of the glass. I thought it was because of some dirt inside. Is there the official doc from Toyota? So I can go back to my dealer. I was there few weeks ago to replace the door seal and adjust the window, could have done everything at once

There were two TSBs for the windows. One that replaced the switches and some stripping that did not help the scratches and one that replaced the stripping and the guides that did help.
You need the one with the guides here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...1&d=1409711423

I'm far out of the 36 months. I'll go to the dealer and see if they can replace the window anyway.

I have a 2015 BRZ and I have those paralelle deep scraches in my driver's window. I don't know what the dealer will say. Probably try to say it's from dirt trapped in the seal but my trail Jeep wrangler had no scratch on the windows even if I operated them with 1 inche of dripping mud on them. They bought it so they should remember.

I forgot to bring this up in this thread, but my 2017 86's two felt guides somehow fell off in the driver's side door, and the rearward guide had scratched the window from top to bottom.

I noticed the scratches while washing it in mid july, with my vacations coming up a few weeks later I left everything as is for a visit to the dealer while I had nothing but time. They ordered the fluffy pads and window and had me come back when the parts came in. Everything was taken care of under warranty at no cost to me.

I don't know if a 2015 will benefit from the same gratuity.

I'm starting to get these on my 2017 86 as well. Time to speak to the dealer. I wonder if they will cover my tint as well or if I will have to eat the cost after the fact.

The tint will be on you, and in fact, it may be a sticking point on this...

The first thing the service advisor asked me, looking at my window, was who did my tint... It was an original window with the slight factory tint... If they did the tint for you when you bought it they'll probably eat it, but if you had it done by a third party, you may have to argue with them over the tint being the cause or not.

Roll down both windows all the way and use a flashlight to look for fluffy pads just below the outside weatherstrip. Compare both sides of the car. It'll be hard to argue the tint did it on the inside when a part is missing in the outside.

If that’s the case I may just leave it alone for now. Scratches aren’t too bad. Thanks for info!

You would think after 6 revitions (last I checked) they would have this problem fixed. The windows on my 2013 are both destroyed on the outside only. I have tint on my windows.

Something tells me that doing regular maintenance on the strips would be the only way to prevent scratches from forming. To do that you would need to remove the door panels and clean all the crap off the fluffy pads. Maybe annually would be adequate. My windows make all kinds of noise when they go up and down but I haven't had a chance to pull the panels off and try cleaning them. Maybe that will be my project for the weekend.

I had the TSB done and I am 100% scratch free after 4 years and 120K miles. Even my tint is pristine.
Since I smoke in the car the windows are up and down way more often than "normal".

Washing the car on a regular basis would prevent the crap from building up on the pads in the first place.

That is good to hear. The TSB came before the 2017 model didn't it? It's interesting that he is having this problem on a 2017. Maybe he drives lots of dirt roads or something.

I looked into performing the TSB on mine but the parts are sort of ridiculously priced. I'd love to replace the glass too which adds up even more. I will start with cleaning first and see how it goes.

Just curious what all the parts and new glass would cost?
