Augh! Fuck me.

That made me a little queasy.

Have you learned to trust your gut over the torque wrench? That's a huge leap.

Can you feel the difference between steel-steel and steel-aluminum when tightening?

I was a kid. It was an expensive lesson.

It was dangling there ready to fall behind the radiator. I'm thinking, great, now I'll have to pay a grand to have the front clam r&r to get the wrench out. After a half hour of fiddling i too got lucky.
I once almost forced a mission scrub because, in a last minute fix, I lost a 1/16 allen wrench somewhere between the airplane, flight deck, and maintenance control.

After furiously looking everywhere I was working, with my cheek against the floor, sighting along with a flashlight, I found it in a crack between the floorboard and rear cabin wall. I jumped up to grab it just as the maintenance officer poked his head through the main hatch.

Wasn't even one of the tools I used.

Oh yeah.. I forgot... personal responsibility for personal stupidity is no longer fashionable, required, or even expected. Thanks for the gentle reminder!

No, but I've learned to NEVER trust my 3/8" drive Harbor Freight torque wrench and use it only as a hammer.

I can feel the difference between "it's getting tighter" and "it's broken." I'll refine from there.

Oh man, that cracked me up
The story of all my usage of any tools with some kind of torsion or torque involved, neatly summed up.
I've only snapped 3 or 4 studs on my car since i got it in '13, though. Kinda proud of that. Still the most looked after vehicle I've ever owned. By far.

Anyway, I've missed you guys. What's happening?

Is anyone around? I’m stuck in SF not with anyone and my car isn’t starting. The battery seems fine. When I try to start the car like usual it makes a slight whirring sound and then stops. It won’t fire or anything.

Thanks. Yeah, been keeping busy. Sold our house, bought a house on the northwest coast, moved a quarter of my stuff and paid for garbage removal on the rest. The penalty of living 12 years in an old house with enough storage space for a small hardware store. Or, in my case, a small junkyard. I won't miss any of it. But sorting out the gems was tedious. I've got a brand new junkyard going already, so normal life is about to resume. With fresher fish and fouler weather.

How about you? I hope you're still going strong as well.
