Step 1. Acquire (checkout/research SBD, Ptuning, and JDL turbo kits for starters - will run you about $5-6K including tune)
Step 2. Install
Step 3. Tune
Step 4. Enjoy

Obviously if you are tracking or plan to go hard on the car, you will need to install solutions that enable proper cooling for air and oil, proper braking for your power, better tires for traction, torque requirements for impacted parts (clutch, axels), and engine fortification for running higher boost. Also, you can kiss that warranty goodbye.

If you need a reference, just look at my build thread. I've installed a bunch of things to increase base driving enjoyment, but now I'm pretty much on the path to turbo. I'm still learning as well. If I had known I wanted to go FI sooner I would have saved myself $766 for header, $500 OFT tune, $95 inlet hose, and $330 for CAI. That's $1691 (27% of JDL turbo cost $6277) if I had waited. If I had to do it all over again, I would just hold off on intake and header/tune mods.

Hello Nottcute and welcome to our forum …

So, first off, I would suggest you ask yourself "what do I want my FR-S to do (or do better) other than what it already does??

If you want it to go faster, certainly, a turbocharger will allow it to do that. If so, I suggest you ask yourself, why do you want it to go faster? Track speed, autox, more power for canyon carving or just go faster.

The answers to those questions will determine what else you should modify on your car to go along with a turbocharger (tires, brakes, suspension, and turbo related additions).

Then, after you figure all that out, I suggest you go to a tuner (we used to call them speed shops) and get advice on what you should plan on buying and how much they would charge you to install those modifications and tune your machine.

Now, you have an estimated cost, which will need a budget, and an action plan.

See, how easy it is...

OR, you could drop in a free-er flowing air filter and install an axle back or cat back aftermarket muffler and maybe have just as much fun …

It's very easy:

1. Buy a turbocharger.
2. Install.
3. Go race Mustangs.

Our FA20 can only handle so much. If you want to really beat those MUSCLE HEAD CARS, go engine swap.

If I was going to go FI, these are the steps I would take.

Step one: Get divorced or break up with girlfriend. After installing the turbo, "the ladies" will practically be waiting in line to ride in your car.

Step two: Figure out which stickers are best for your car? "Got Boost?", "hoonigan", or possibly "illest".

Step three: Post a pic of unopened boxes on instagram and complain how long it took to get them shipped from Japan. Also post a pic of a cute puppy and a pic of a plate of sushi.

Step four: Post your desired HP level (Bonus points for 500+ HP) on the forum and start a poll for the color of silicone hoses you are going to buy.

Step five: Start looking for sponsors. Send them pics of your unopened boxes. The will be impressed and start sending you more parts.

Step six: Now that you have all the parts you need and have done all the necessary research. Install the turbo.

Step Seven: Now that you have completed the install of your turbo and maxed your credit card out; it is time to start your part-out thread. Make sure to ask retail for everything.

Step eight: Make a last post. Make your last post about it being your last post. Really lay it on thick. Then complain about how bored you got with your car. And then boast that you are going to buy a 911 turbo, but cant decide which special edition.

Step nine: There is no step nine.

Good Luck!

Step nine: Get on YouTube and complain how slow the car was even after the turbo and how the FA20 can't handle boost.
