Yeah, no. Long hours once in awhile is fine. I've worked a 19 hour day delivering mail after a holiday. Then went back to work same time the next day. I've worked a month straight of eight hour days in a factory environment. I typically work 6 days a week and anywhere from 50-60 sometimes 70 hour weeks during holiday season. Working 89 hours in 5 days is too dangerous to be worth a little bit of extra coin.

I was a NEET once ("Not in Education, Employment, or Training") and once I started working full time I hit the ground running. Even now I'm always working more hours or volunteering for overtime just to have something to do besides sit on my butt at home. I'm telling you it's a bad idea and probably not worth it. But you do need to find something else to do being young and all.

Well, at least in the old US Army, as a private on active duty, ALL of your expenses were covered by the Army. PLUS, they gave you an allowance to spend on candy bars and soda at the canteen, on your day off.

- what's the problem .. ??

I recently did a 17 day stretch with no days off and a total of 176 hours.

It sucked.

I caution against it.

NO.

I used to work up to 70-80 hours a week for months at a time. 50 was a normal week to me. One of the reasons I quit my job to take a lower paying one. The checks were absolutely not worth the lost time with friends, family, and doing the things I loved.

I did 11 years on submarines, now im in the power industry...12 -14/ day is about my sustainable limit. 18s for an extended period sounds awful.

10hrs a day for 5 days is my limit. Can I do more yeah but is it worth the toll on your body. Not in the slightest.

My job requires a lot of mental work. I get paid a lot, but I have to be "on" that whole time. If I work 15 hours one day, then I'm borderline useless the next. I found it wasn't worth it, because even though I would make a ton of money that first day, I lost more by not being able to work the next.

NO. It is just not worth it! Especially if there is a thin line between life and death placed on anybody's hands. Not even if my work is double checked by somebody else. Even if you think you can handle it, even if your body "could" take the abuse... its still abuse. No amount of coffee or energy drinks, or FULL SLEEP for the other "half" of the day will make it alright.

In the end, the reward will not be as good as expected, and the journey will be pretty rough. Be safe, be healthy, better things will eventually come your way.

I did 16 hours a day for a couple months straight a few times during my career. In hindsight, I should not have done it and lost much more than I gained by doing it.

I am old and retired now. One thing that I know now that I wish I would have known then is that time is the one thing that you cannot beg, borrow or steal any more of. You can always get more money. Pace yourself. Control your spending. Take your time to reach your goals. You will find that you will enjoy the journey a lot more and reaching your end goal will feel a lot more special. Digging yourself a financial hole because you want to fix up your car the way you want it RIGHT NOW will just end up causing you grief and you will not be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

TL;DR Don't do it. It is not worth it.

Great advice. The bolded portion is especially true of time spent with your spouse, SO, friends and especially children/grandchildren.
