Would you work 18 hours a day?
 

I mean, this would only be Monday to Thursday, then 17 hours on Friday. And then the weekends off. I don't live with my family... I'm thinking of picking up the extra job for a few months to drop an extra 5-10k in savings and then call a quits. But would I even be able to keep it up that long? Idk... something I'm considering. I don't really do anything after "work" right now anyways and my current job is pretty relaxed.

Have I - yes (harvest time on the farm and in the military)

Can you do it? That depends upon you and the job(s).

I suggest you ask yourself, what is so important about the money that you would burn yourself for a few months .. ??

I can say that 11 hour days (plus 1.5 hours of commuting) is the longest I can keep up for few weeks, but that includes 4-6 hours on Saturday as well. I've seen folks pull 16 hour days for a few weeks and they are burnt out to the point of being delirious and making suboptimal decisions. Probably a different environment than what you might be describing though...

I filled in for 2 managers (1 on vacation and 1 on newborn leave) for a month and a half while attempting to do my own job.
About 11 hours a day filling and doing my own 8.

Right, I'm rigging parachutes right now and doing some supply stuff for the military while waiting training. Since I'm not really qualified to do much work it's mostly general duties and stuff so not particularly hard work. On the other hand I was going to pick up some full time metal working, just general manual labour. The thing is I don't commute to work since I'm on base, and this second job would only be 10 minutes away. I mean, hard work or not I'm sure a full 18 hours in a working environment would be taxing... I'm tight on cash right now and I can make due with what I make but it's frugal living while I'm getting the car fixed. For an extra few thousand a month it almost seems worth it...

YIKES! I sure hope you would be willing to jump with any parachute you rigged, if you were working 18 hours a day... :confused0068:

I have found out over the years, that you spend what you make … so I suggest you NOT work 18 hrs a day to "make due".

Try it and see if it's for you. I did something similarblast year as an experiment. I was working 5 6 or 7 days every week, one stretch i did 19 days in a row. These are 13 hours shifts though not 16. I doubled my base salary doing this but the extra money and less free time didn't make me twice as happy. So I slowed it down a ton.

Please do not do this. If you want to pick up some cash take on something part time preferably where you can pick the hours. You may feel that what you are doing is "not hard work" but two jobs will take a toll that you may not realize until it is too late. Even those basic military tasks may seem meaningless to you but others lives may be in your hands. You are rigging chutes right now for Christ sake. This is not something that sombody pushing the limits of human endurance should even consider doing.

Ok ok you guys convinced me. Anyways my chutes are checked over by an actual trade qualified rigger before they're packed up anyways geez I wouldn't let the SAR guys hop out with a chute I rigged after an 18 hour day lol.

If you want to overwork yourself just move to Japan.

When I was a tow truck driver, this was basically me from December to April. Some days I wouldn't sleep (Vermont, snow, etc) because there are just too many accidents in the area I covered and nobody else took the hours.

Not worth a penny of it. I had sciatica problems and could barely walk correctly for two years even after I quit. My eating was way out of check, I had insomnia and also lost touch with some friends. I also realized the company was taking advantage of me not saying no. Sleep/time lost is only one of many things you stand to lose
