2017+ JDM DRL and headlight wiring help

Hi guys, I am trying to install the 2017+ JDM DRL, but from what I am aware the USDM BRZ does not have the proper harness.

My plan is to create a Y-harness (1x8pin[headlight] + 1x4pin[DRL] -> 8pin[headlight]).

I purchased the following connectors off Aliexpress (b/c Toyota wanted $40CAD per wire . . . )
- 8pin - 90980–10896/90980–10897
- 4pin - 90980–11027/ 90980–11028
--They come with the connector, pins and seals.

I have two questions that I am trying to figure out:

1. There are 2 ground pins (or 3, trying to figure out what the last pin is for)
Which do I tap into?*(I assume that one is for low beam, one for high beam and one for everything else)

2. Does anyone know what gauge wire is used for the headlights? There is one thick wire and 6 others are the same.
According to the wiring pdf the part (82998–12430) - wire outside diameter is 2.6mm and nominal size is 2.00

The pinout is (driver side)
[Low-Beams | Ground | High-Beams | X ]
[DRL |Turns | unknown | Ground ]

Thanks

You can wire it in several different ways - depends on WHEN you want the bumper DRLs to come on. I'd assume you will want them on whenever the boomerang is on right? Regardless, you should use a relay and a fuse for the DRL.

You can use either ground - it makes no difference. I'm not sure what your unknown wire is for because I have a 2014 USDM BRZ (has HIDs) and my 8-pin connector has a different pinout than the 2017+.

The headlight power (super thick) is 14awg. The others are 22awg. The two grounds are 14awg as well I believe. The DRL wires on my 2014 are 22awg for both power and ground - the current for the LEDs is really low.

I did custom wiring and wired it inside the cabin under the steering wheel. to the DRL fuse using a fuse tap. It doesnt work exactly like the normal DRLs
1. lights turn off when Engine is off.
2. dont turn on until engine is On.
3. stay on when you have the handbrake up.
