Ikon Motorsport Duck Tail Wing

Hey guys, I have a question for anyone that would have knowledge on the case!

I bought a duck tail wing from Ikon Motorsport, and fudged up the install. Now I’m trying to buy a new roll of the 3M adhesive that was on the wing. I’ve contacted Ikon and their rep told me to buy this roll, which is not the correct size. That roll is too thin, and when installed on the wing, the tape is not thick enough to touch to my car. I called up the rep again and probed them, and found out that they get the wing with the tape pre-installed, so they would really have no idea which tape is the correct one.

So I’m wondering if anyone would happen to know which tape is the necessary one that I would need to properly install my wing?

Thanks in advance!
Jon

Are you looking at the 0.09 thickness? That’s the only option available.

Yes. 4991 is only available in .090 thickness. If you preferred a thinner one then
5952 would be your choice. It’s .045

So I was measuring the tape that initially came on the duck tail, and it seems to be around 0.125 inches thick. Any chance that this material could expand or contract after a while?

Also, do you think this is strong enough to hold the wing on?

I ordered a duck tail from them in the past. The fitment was really off. There were some pretty decent sized gaps which made it so that the spoiler did not have good contact. Ended up returning.

If you primed it correctly (ie. cleaning, adhesion promoter, and heat) the spoiler will hold on adequately well.

Dang that’s not good to hear that. I’m trying to hit up AutoTuned in California to have them inspect it and install it, so hopefully they can figure it out.

been running the Ikon TRD style spoiler for over a year with some super strength 3M tape from AutoZone like $8, fitment is spot on and the tape had yet to move.
