Like a lot of scca solo rules, the vast majority don't have a dog in the fight and can take or leave the change. At this point I don't care about the weight, but I'd bet I'd be faster if I was properly strapped in and not fighting to keep myself in position, at the very least more consistent.

Does anyone find that Rivals grip notably better after being heat cycled/scrubbed in? I just ran a new set for the first time and I was a little disappointed and I'm wondering whether I can expect them to be any more impressive at the next event. I've always heard this category of tire needs to be heat cycled when new, I'm just wondering how much if any notable difference there is.

I think that they do improve. I have also found they need a LOT more heat to grip to their full potential.

Launch control at 2800rpm on ~50 run Rivals took till my third run to not spin and require throttle feathering. 180+ run RE71's hooked up first time out and could probably use a higher launch rpm, though outdoor temps were also 10-15 higher and that plays a role in the difference too.

That's good to hear. They felt pretty good but I really had hoped for a little more grip out of new tires. I've just never driven on new rivals before.

I forgot to mention. Completely different tires on good concrete. Launch control was at 3400 if I remember right, and just a bit of spin off the line on first runs each heat.

I don't think that has much to do with heat cycles. RE71R's just launch better, period. I launched them 1k+ rpm's higher on my Spyder.

It is more the change as they get heat in them I find worth noting. Whether that translates to grip in a turn.. It seemed like it, but I only have data for the launches at the moment.

Do you find that they get better with heat to the extent that you never spray them? Or do they need a spray on hot days on a long course? I certainly have never felt like they got too hot even with two drivers on a hot day, but once they feel very hot to the touch I usually give them a spray to try to keep them in what I imagine to be the sweet spot. I'm much more used to driving on re71's and, before that, r1r's though, neither of which really like to get too hot?

There is no reason to spray the BFG.

any tire should be scrubbed/heat cycled before compition use to help clear the mold release off the tire.

For those of you guys running RE-71R's this season, how much camber are you running? I'm currently at -2.8 front -2 rear and think I need more. Rear tire wear has been pretty close to even, but I'm getting noticeable outside wear in the fronts. Going to use my friend's pyrometer next event to check temps, but just wanted to check with you guys to get a general idea.
