I just checked mine to show you how to check yours. Don't be lazy. Get your ass out there and fix it.

I think the shop put the wrong pads on the wrong side. I’ve marked summer/racing pads which side goes which, so I know 100% when I install em.

That happened to me when I pressure washed mine a few years ago. Next time, I'm going to try one of those chemical deck cleaners... supposed to actually kill those bad boys, last longer, and be better for your wood in the long run.

Happy to hear dissenting opinions.. just going by a couple local "experts"' advice.

Well now, MuseChaser, I thank you for your thoughts on pressure washing a deck.

I believe we had this conversation last year

A little background. My deck was built 34 years ago using non-pressure treated lumber. Only about 200 sq ft of it's 1,500 sq ft surface is covered. My deck lives in the PNW, where it rains 370 days out of the year (seems like it).

About every year for the past 25 years, I have pressure washed it once per year. As a pretreatment, I use a secret formula of TSP (Trisodium Phosphate) and chlorine. Then I seal it with Thompson's water seal, after pressure washing and drying.

Here is my theory on the fungus and mold situation. The TSP (a powerful cleaning agent) cleans and opens up the grain of the wood and the pressure washer drives the chlorine deep into the wood. Before the chlorine totally volatizes, I apply the oil based deck preservative, trapping some of the chlorine in the wood to beat up on any remaining fungi and mold spores.

My deck is kinda like me, it has held pretty good up for several years, it just creaks and groans from time to time. Also, for the past two years, it has held up a 1,000 gallon pool (about 4 tons), on one corner.

However, this year I'm going to lay down some cheapo indoor/outdoor carpeting in the pool area. Why? Because I'm getting tired of pulling splinters out of screaming granddaughters feet.

So, that's the "rest of the story".

Just got back home to San Jose after some visiting with the parents up in Daly City. Washed my car for about 4 hours in 75 degree "heat"/direct sunlight, it cooled off there by the time I left, and then of course the moment I step into my apartment it's like I've just stepped into a sauna. The shitty old-school thermostat read 85 degrees, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was 90 or more.

Yikes.

I have a simple wall air conditioner. But I don’t typically leave it “on” when I’m not home. I think this summer I’ll start leaving it on set to a high temp like 75 degrees though. It took probably 1.5 to 2 hours just to somewhat cool down my living room this evening.

Unfortunately circulation is pretty awful so the cool air is mostly just in the living room normally.
