Yaris has more than HP hurting its performance chances, beam axle, rear drum brakes, high COG, annoying center instruments (personal dislike).

I understand what you mean, but most of the current Toyotas would need a lot more than just more power.

Making their full line up unaffordable to the average consumer.

Manufacturers have to strategize based on current government laws and limitations and work around a decent market and of course enthusiasts are only a fraction of the total consumer market. Otherwise they would run their companies into the ground.

The average consumer will always pay for safety over performance, especially if the cost is reasonable.
Exactly, which is why this car will also be offered in automatic transmission. Much to enthusiast dismay.

honestly. who is gonna buy a beef'd up Yaris? 300 HP corolla isn't practical either. So much work has to go into a 300 hp corolla that the sale value would probably in the 30k range. 300hp would mean it needs an upgraded suspension, axles, bigger wheels, lsd and etc etc etc; not just power mods Now who is gonna buy a Corolla for 30k? Not I i rather go buy an EVO or STI awd + turbo!

It shouldn't be hard for Toyota, if they really wanted to do it. Just take the AWD system from the new Matrix and add an up-to-date(emissions wise) 3S-GTE. Toyota was in WRC 4 or 5 years ago running a Corolla, so I don't see what the big deal is. Price it at 25k and be done with it.

Hm... $25k awd Corolla? I rather take new Subaru WRX (which is about $25k) or used STI ($25k or a lot less)

I'd rather they used the ft86 platform for other models like a Supra and a sport sedan that goes toe to toe with a 3 series/Evo/Sti. The current Toyota FWD platforms wont be a good idea to make more sporty IMO. Why do you think no one cares for Honda anymore other than the die hard fanboys.

I'm not saying you have to buy it, but competition improves the breed.

Granted Honda has been going downhill, but sales-wise they've been successful with their 8th-gen.

It'd be suicide to make a Supra nowadays, with rising gas prices. Heck, even Mitsu is pondering killing/changing the Evo.

Except Toyota can easily make good hybrid engines that or wait until hydrogen cars become standard...i remember reading they dont plan on riding the electric band wagon and instead focused on fuel cells.

But yeah look at those lexus hybrid engines and the output...toyota can easily make a efficient supra

I think even easier would be to add an "economy" setting on the cam where the intake valves close a lot sooner. If it has turbos then we essentially have a highly efficient Miller cycle mode. That's how hybrids get their highway MPG increase anyways, with Atkinson cycle. Perhaps they'll figure out how to do this with Valvematic
