Wouldn't it be easier...
I mean I love the FT-86 as much as the next guy but wouldn't it be better, more financialy responsible and just plain easier for toyota to focus on making it's current lineup of cars sportier? They could build say a 210hp turbo Yaris with a 1NZGTE, put better suspention, a LSD, ect. and BAM type R Si....It would probably be cheaper than a Si also, weigh lighter, and just generaly be awesome. With all of the R&D it would take maybe a year. We could be driving it TODAY! A 200hp Yaris, 300hp Corolla, and a 350hp camry looks better to a enthusiast than a single 200hp RWD sporrts coupe...

i dont want any of that

Alright explain to me why a 200hp civic is better than a 200hp yaris
|
Some interesting points but doesnt really make too much sense to me as a buyer who would like a light weight traditional sports car.
Only vehicle in the line up worth modifying is the Sienna imo. Swagger wagon it up :bellyroll: |

Nope. You can't simply bolt on a forced induction part if you're a manufacture, for sake of longevity, reliability, maintenance. The r&d and cost of those engines wouldn't justify the production numbers and market. For example, I can't see a market for more than 7,500 monster Yari(spell?) especially with the cost of all the goodies. And in the end it's still a Yaris...

the ft-86 fills a segment in the auto industry. They can and possibly will make more tuned engines for their other cars and more distinctive designs possibly. But none of them are sport RWD coupes lol
|
They could market it as a type r killer in all aspects...
a 200hp yaris would be faster than a 200hp civic because of power to weight size would be different but still good It dosen't have to be a GE motor and the R&D wouldn't cost too much considering turbo 1NZFE's at 160hp with no internal strengthining are made by toyota. with more internal strengthening it could easily see 200hp. What im trying to say isnt to make a 200hp yaris or 300hp corolla or whatever but what I'm trying to say is that instead of just putting out one or maybe two sports cars to improve their image as a sports car manufacturer they should make their cars more sporty in general. Just the LFA and the FT86 dosen't cut it. |
so let me get this straight.. taking a normal car and adding more power to it makes it more sporty?? are you fucking high?
point of a sports car is that it is designed as such from the start. every aspect of it has been though of and pushed in the performance direction.. what you are suggesting is like taking a mule, shaving it (weight reduction), giving it some roids and entering it in the races.. you REALLY think thats a good idea?? |
is Yaris rwd? Does have 6sp tranny? Have low center gravity?
yeah... Yaris is nice gas saver car. Let's keep it that way |
I don't think the OP is saying that he likes the Yaris. He's just using that car as an example for the sake of his argument. Interesting topic. But once again, I think I can safely say that most of us would prefer a 200hp RWD lightweight sports coupe to a... let's say, 300hp FWD heavy sedan (factory tuned Camry?). As for the Yaris, it would be a nice competitor to Mini Cooper S's, Civic Si's, etc. You also have to remember that you can't simply make a 200hp Yaris without adding something to the current one. And adding anything, means adding weight. May not be as much of a Type-R killer as one would think.

enthusiast want a car that was designed to be sporty and not a everyday car that has been pumped out to feel sporty
|
^ Exactaly. And a Honda Civic Type R IS sporty...I do kind of like the Yaris for what it is but it's no race car lol. And a Honda Civic Type R IS a mule shaved and on roids....And people love that car. IMO the easiest way for Toyota to improve it's image as a sports car manufacturer is to make all of the cars in it's lineup sportier in some way. I think every S or SE model should get a sport tuned suspention, ECU map and sports exaust at least. Incluing the Swagger Wagon lol. But a turbo Yaris wouldn't hurt :)

Seriously, if they were going to do that they would have done that from the beginning instead of building a new car IMHO :iono:. |
