No, that's bad for lugnuts. You want them to stay put under all sorts of vibrations and forces. Antiseize will change the frictional forces that keep the lugnuts in place. It also changes the ratio between axial force and tangent force, which can damage threads and wheels if you torque it to spec. If you don't torque to spec (or reasonably close) other bad things can happen.


TLDR:. Don't use antiseize on threaded parts with a torque specification.

So true!

If you use anti-seize on lug nuts, when tightening them, you can't hear them squeak. Remember, two squeaks and a grunt is "lug nut tight".

No, no impact gun. Simple 24” breaker bar to loosen the lugnuts THEN use electric impact gun to screw out the lugnuts. I was trying to loosen the lugnuts (& yes I know righty tighty, lefty loosy) and next thing I know, it SNAPPED!

& FYI I’ve snapped 2 more. Right now, I’m scared to loosen rear ones, cuz if this keeps up, I will snap all other ones.

Just a pure curiosity...

I’ve heard both side of the story. I usually put lil bit on mine, but when I put new lugnuts, I didn’t, result, I’ve snapped lugnuts... even strong ARP ones. How do you make it not seize the studs & lugnuts without anti-seize.

How does one shear studs like that?! I have wheels on and off far to often and nothing... Though I'm always prepared with replacements and tools for the job...

Welp, since your recent discovery, I'd suggest you take your car up to a local tire shop and ask them to replace all the studs on your wheels.

As far as the use of anti-seize, I've been tightening nuts on wheels for going on 70 years …. and NEVER used any anti-seize compound nor have I used a torque wrench to tighten up the lug nuts. I've never busted off a wheel stud nor have I ever had a wheel come loose.


My secret, two squeaks and a grunt (over the age of 70, maybe two grunts), using a tool such as this.




PS - Always be sure that your lug nut wrench is lined up straight with the stud ….. like, NO jumping on it ….

Same here, I’ve never busted a wheel stud til today. Specially I didn’t expect ARP stud to bust off. As for tighting the lugnuts I’ve always tighten em w tq wrench to make sure it tq to the spec & never over tighten them.

Also to add, I’m not frustrated at ARP, cuz they make great parts... I’m just frustrated at the timing. I just wanted to replace my brake pads, but now, I’ll be doing more work. I’ll be picking up more ARP studs & lugnuts today. I’m wondering new lugnuts caused this... or maybe I’m overthinking? I used to have Kics lugnuts and they were working nicely, but when I replace it w Muteki this happened. Either way I’ll be picking up different brand & I’m thinking Gorilla. They have forged steel, so it should be strong for daily instead of chrome Vanadium... so I hope

Replace with OEM lugs and nuts. Done. I've had mine off countless times. Like new.

I've used OEM and McGard all my life and no issues. Then again I don't track.
