You talking about the old time "tune" where you turn off the ignition ....then turn it back on again ......

Nope. That was bad enough but at least you controlled when it happened. I am talking about the guys that tune their electronically controlled engine to pop and backfire "like a race car".

I'ms sure somebody in the software tuning forum is working on a ghost-cam tune to go along with that.

Be careful, though, ghost-cam is very close to ghost-gun. Don't want to get it banned.

There's a ghost-cam Mustang video, and the dudes that have the tune look just like I thought they would.

NO clue what you guys are talking about, looked it up.

Nope, still slow.

I actually like the backfire one more, my friend had it on his car. it sounds good when you are driving down in the city road but then you realize the fact that it does it only on gas between 2.5k to like 4.5k is pretty stupid..... and pretty sure it's not good for the car in the long run.

Dear god I hope none of you have an aftermarket exhaust or unequal length header. Every argument made applies there as well.

So you're saying a header or catback exhaust is only for noise with no measurable gain?

Used to do it with these going through small towns with DANGER EXPLOSIVES signs all over the truck. Could clear a small town street with just one good one. Also blew many exhausts apart.

No it is not the same. The header and exhaust are actually part of the car and the sound they produce belong to that car. Tuning an engine to pretend it has a big cam is not part of the car and the car does not have the ability to make that sound in reality. It is the very definition of RICE and the stuff that makes a laughing stock out of whole categories of cars.

No, I'm saying that unequal length headers specifically are less efficient of a design versus equal length. But many of us, myself included, go UEL for the sound. The argument being made by everyone is that aesthetics at the cost of inefficiency is lame. Am I not understanding you all correctly? We are all guilty of this to an extent.

Bottom line, some people want different things than other people and thats ok.

Oh and yeah, I am saying that a catback has no real gains for most uses, it's purely aesthetics.

The point of a ghost cam is to make it sound like an older motor with an aggressive cam. It doesn't have an aggressive cam. It just sounds like it. Sort of. It's trying to be something it's not.

If you install an unequal length header on your car, it doesn't just sound like a boxer with an unequal length header. It is a boxer with an unequal length header. It's not pretending to be something it isn't. It's not posing.

I go back to my brake caliper analogy. Some people put big brakes on their cars just because they like the way they look, yet the brakes will still outperform stock even if they're not really needed for the kind of driving they do. Posers don't bother with big brakes. They just put silly caliper covers on their cars to look like big brakes. The ghost cam is the auditory equivalent of poser caliper covers from the bling aisle at Pep Boys.

Poser cam!

There are still gains to be had with those parts. The ghost cam trend does absolutely nothing....

Catbacks have been proven in multiple tests to increase hp and torque (gains vary) but almost all catback at least drop weight... So even if its "just" a sound or better look for the most part there is still some acceptable reason behind a catback.

There is nothing acceptable about a ghost cam. If you want a cammed sound, buy one of the sets of cams available and there you have it.

I could be mistaken, but I don't believe installing aftermarket cams in this engine will give you the "big cam" sound they're looking for. The computer compensates to smooth out the idle so that you don't get the lope like an older motor.

This is what they want:

I doubt any of the cams for our cars will ever do that.
