I agree that it would be nice to see some sportier version of the Toyotas now but dont be stupid and say that enthusiast want 300HP Camry instead of a sports coupe design from the ground up with being a drivers car If people really wanted that they would mod their Camrys but most people use the cars you mention for day to day fuel sipping commutes so to put your plan into action would not make too much sense |

It would be easier if they made a limited production AE86
I would buy that even if it cost me my life ![]() Yaris is nice as it is now, camry is boring (we have the 280hp here in middle east and sooooooooooo many people (stupid ones) buy these over STi's and Evo's ) and the corolla is just lame DD

Another reason unsaid in this thread is the Total emissions limited by US/Europe/Asia per manufacturer.
If Toyota would offer their line ups with more powerful engines, the total greenhouse emissions would rise leaving massive fines per continent and eventually bankrupting the company. The only way to offer a 350hp Camry, a 300hp corolla, and a 200hp yaris at the same time is if they were all mated with a hybrid engine. Which would also drive up the manufacturing cost. Making their full line up unaffordable to the average consumer. Manufacturers have to strategize based on current government laws and limitations and work around a decent market and of course enthusiasts are only a fraction of the total consumer market. Otherwise they would run their companies into the ground. The average consumer will always pay for safety over performance, especially if the cost is reasonable.

Why don't you take a run around the block, on your hands. Same idea.

Again IM NOT SAYING TO BUILD A 300HP CAMRY OR A 200HP YARIS OR A 300HP COROLLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm saying they should make their cars sportier and advertise them as such. Not like saying oh we added a suspention and a exaust and our car is faster than a Type R but they could say our cars get X amount of MPG above the competition AND there faster too. They sorta already made the Camry SE faster. It has extra HP over the original but nobody knows why. Maybe a different ECU map or exaust. Also fuel efficiency wouldn't be effected as much as you say. They both have ULEV-II ratings and get 22/33 MPG. If they made toyotas have better steering feel, better suspention, and a little more power(not huge power jumps) it would be a good move
instead of just releasing the FT86 and saying BAM toyota sports cars are back. Toyota is known as a boring ecconobox maker not because they make the camry but because it's signifigantly more boring to drive than it's competitors. I don't think it would take alot of R&D to give the Camry better steering feel and sportier suspention but what do I know? |

There is a Yaris-TS, which is essentially what the Scion XD was built off of. It has the same 2ZR-FE, 1.8 130hp engine. That's the closest you're gonna get to a tarted up factory Yaris.
If you're stuck with a 1.5(like me) there is a turbo kit that microimageonline.com sells, for less than 2k. Stock motor(internally) on stock ECU can handle 160hp with other supporting mods. If you really want to go crazy, there is someone in PR that swapped in a 2ZZ from the celica GT-S(http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/sho...&highlight=2zz). There is also a RWD yaris out there somewhere(http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3096907/2007-toyota-yaris), I don't know if they finished it. There also this echo...http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/sho...yaris...pretty sick. The point is that if you are really interested in a yaris there is a lot of aftermarket support for it...Just don't expect too much from it cause every car has it's limits and the yaris is definately no exception. |

OP, I think what your trying to say is that Toyota and other manufacturers for that matter. Should offer a performance trim for already existing active vehicles. As an alternative method to boost the "driving spirit" image for the company as a whole. Rather than produce a sole sports car that embodies the "driving spirit" image and monopolizes on it.
Sort of what Mazda has done with the Mazda3, adding styling to a hot hatch/coupe and having a Mazdaspeed3 trim available to embody the entire line as a performance hatch even if the base models arn't performance oriented. Thus giving a better image to Mazda, and boosting sales.

LexusFman: I do agree with you though. Toyota needs to step up with a little something for each car in it's lineup.
I think the biggest problem with Toyota is how do you make a RWD Camry making 300hp when you have a Lexus GS. Why build a corolla coupe in FWD when you have the Scion TC? If Toyota didn't have Lexus or Scion, maybe they would've made "sporty" versions of their "eco-commuter-friendly" counterparts. Until then we have to DIY or wait till the aftermarket supports it. |

I agree that there needs to be sportier trims on their cars but lets face it what person wants to drive around in the fast version of a eco fuel sipping family car?
hell even honda knows that sporty trims on their eco cars dont sell well and thus why we don't get any good type r stuff since what the 90s? either way please never say that we enthusiast would rather have sporty trims on boring existing cars rather than a new light weight RWD coupe cause if thats the case you and me are in different classes of enthusiast |
