I didn't have an issue with soap/water/alcohol/paint prep chem, cleaning it like normal. I might have exaggerated in my wording. It came off easy when I put my finger nail on it and scraped it to see the durability. It wasn't that durable as various Rustoleum products I have used in the past.

I did not sand it (normally do) but this time I didn't do it.

And plasti-dip (peels off) (i.e. if you rub it with a watch on accident whacking it, wouldn't it peel)?

Sanding or some form of clear, even low-gloss would have helped.

As for the dip, depends how sharp, and how thick you apply it as well as how it turned out. It took a couple good whacks to really notice issues on my center, and at that point - do it again. That dash wouldn't see too many hits :P

I'm going to wait until I can get a quart of DGM paint to do mine. I did the same on all the interior bits of my Elise and having color-matched interior to your exterior color looks awesome.

Example console piece

Indeed. Used Milennium Jade on my S14's console and valve cover. Tying in parts FTW!

I was thinking of doing the same. I have SWP.

It was either paint it SWP or WRB, since I always wanted a blue car, but there is so much red.... So after driving the car awhile, I'm leaning towards SWP panels.

What I plan to do is wait until I can get the part# for all the silver pieces and order the FRS parts from Toyota (I have a bigger discount from Toyota than Subaru), so I won't have to touch the original pieces. This will also allow me to change it up later too.

See. Now I'm getting into evil genius mode.

Wonder how it would turn out..do the normal coat of plastidip. Hit it with a primer layer you can sand smooth, then paint. Peelable paint? Might have to try this on scrap parts now... lol

This could be interesting. I would be worried about the PlastiDip flexing with heat/cool cycles and the paint popping. Give it a try and report back.

Would be interesting. Would have to toss it in the car on a 100+ degree day and see what happens. If I get a chance inbetween prepping the S14 for tuning, I'll try and lay down a few coats.

plastidip does not expand/contract with heat. have done on a few customer cars on their wheels and it even holds up on the track

Still haven't done science project, however, I did snap a pic from my phone yesterday to show how the dash paint is holding up (quite well) and texture via picture:

So, where can we buy the black or faux carbon fiber panels? A scion dealer? I tried painting mine and to make a long story short, I screwed them up and need to purchase new ones. Thanks!

You are screwed. No one sells those parts yet. I want to buy them and there is no availability from any dealer
