BRZ Dash Painted

I painted my dash with...

...gives it a similar texture to the surrounding of the speedo.

Which makes it look like this:

Enjoy!

bring in a desk lamp, shine it from the back seat

set your camera to night time mode, turn flash off

hold it steady, take a picture

NOS!

(just kidding)

I flush mounted my Kicker Bass Control knob there and put some vinyl cap on it. Yah twist the knob for more boom!

Too much work! Just buy the paint, spray it on anything plastic (outside of car parts) and you'll see the texture.

I've been thinking of painting it body-color. I did the same in my STI and it looks great. The downside is that there is a lot of separate silver pieces that need to come off. The vertical ones to either side of the HVAC are ones I haven't figured out how to remove yet..

Duly noted.

Let me see what I can do in the meantime before I start this science project.

I've seen some people with pictures, but 'if you can peel it off' is what worries me.

I did that too in my prior cars. However, since my car is White, no way would I do it. I like the black interior. I didn't think all pieces was necessary, but that horizontal silver had to go.

On another note, anyone know where I can buy both pieces (online parts group)? I'd like to buy two sets. I'm working on custom mounting a tablet and wanted to play around with one, and I wanted one to go back to stock if I ever wanted to.

Oh, and don't buy the Krylon Fusion for Plastic crap! The paint is supposed to bond to plastic. Well that didn't work and easily scraped off (well okay not that easy but somewhat scratched easy) as well as left dust/like particles (minor sporadic bumps). It didn't look that bad, but wasn't as smooth or refined as I wanted when I originally painted these pieces. Then I felt the speedo texture and wala - this bedliner paint that I've used in lots of projects coincidentally worked perfectly!

BoostinIX 07-10-2012 05:34 PM

What kind of prep work went down before using the krylon? Never had complaints with it before.

And what do you mean "if you can peel it off" worries you? With numerous thin coats, it holds up well. Not like that section sees the abuse the center console will. Still comes off perfect.
