Lol, there in spirit.

I'm not certain a twin could make it to Mike's unless it was raised up a bit.

I'm in Ohio. I'm sure the town 12 miles away would have some sort of battery, but the town 40 miles away has battery choices and a Sub/Toy dealership.

I am pretty tied up for a while, plus it is motorcycle and Miata weather. The 86 might get parked for a while.

They can internally short. I had one do this not too long ago. Water level was fine, it was strong one day and then completely stopped working. I could actually jossle the battery and it would start just fine... then a few cranks later it was completely dead again.

I've had them do that on a motorcycle before, but never a car. No big deal, things happen, it just seemed a little odd. I'm a Toyota guy, but have always liked the idea of Subaru, this car is a gateway. I'll admit some things seem wonky, but I love how it handles.

The way it sounds when starting it makes me feel like the battery is half dead anyhow. Reminds me of my stepdads old Cessna 172.

A lot of things seem wonky if you ask me. I’d rather have a Toyota engine. Although I am currently doing a rebuild and have the engine on a stand. When you flip the engine over you can tell it really would have an impact on CoG. You can rotate it to any angle and let go and it just stays without needing to lock the stand. Most engines will not stay upright without locking them and for sure will not stay on their side without locking. I hate the boxer sound but it does seem to have its advantages.

Agreed,

I know there are some here that do not feel the boxer contributes to how the car handles, but I personally feel it does.

I have been riding BMW motorcycles with boxer twins for the last 30 years. Seriously weird, but somehow they get in your blood. Of course on a motorcycle the engine, its weight and positioning and dynamics of its spinning mass make a huge difference on a how a bike handles. I have a bunch of bikes and for all out performance the BMW boxers are pretty easy to beat on paper, but there is something satisfying about them that is different and difficult to quantify.

Of course in a car as long as a healthy torque curve and HP are present and you can mount the engine low, it probably does not matter what the configuration is.
