PLEASE HELP!! Poke problems.
Alright, I'm very new to cars, actually, the FRS is my first and only car that I've ever had. I did some research and ordered some new wheels. 18x9.5 +22 and 265/35 tires. I really wanted to get as much traction and width with these new wheels and boy did I get width. I test fit the rims, just jacking the car up and placing them on; to my unfortunate surprise, the rim stuck out almost an inch! I know it's a very aggressive offset but I've seen others running 18x9.5 with a +17 or lower. I understand they aren't on stock suspension like me and may be running some negative camber but dang! What exactly can I do to fit these? Does lowering the car push the wheel in further? And this may sound soo dumb but can control arms push that rotor in further? I really don't want to run camber because I feel like it defeats the whole purpose of running a bigger wheel. Same with stretching the tire but I would be more open to that than anything. So what are my options other than going through the hassle to return them?
Link to Pictures - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1mc...0Yt6oDAONL4KD4 NOTES- -NO suspension modifications on the car... Yet. -I have pictures but since they're from my phone it won't let me upload them cause they're too small. Please click link to view ^^^ -NOT running a staggered setup. -I'm referring to this video [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rF_uJbjubqY"]MY NEW WHEELS DONT FIT | Rolling fenders on the FRS - YouTube[/ame] he is running a staggered 18x9 front 18x9.5 rear, 17 offset front 11 offset rear! And it's fitting perfect. -I have not mounted tires yet, I have only seen the rim jacked up so maybe it sticks out more when the car is in the air, I have no idea. Please be nice, I understand this all might sound incredibly stupid to some of you but we all have to start somewhere.

The car in the video is running coilover suspension. The wheels are running negative camber to fit the wheels. I think you might need coilovers plus LCAs to fit these wheels. You can run an inexpensive coilovers like TeinFlex Z that also has adjustable camber plates for the front and LCAs for the rear to dial in negative camber. You'll need to tuck the wheels with negative camber. You might be able to get away with installing camber bolts in the front and LCAs for the rear because your offset is so low.

Sell the wheels. Do more (better) research.
Not trying to be a jerk. Massive wheels is one of the common ways people make these cars ride and handle worse and just all around be a pain. What are your goals? Fun daily driver? Stance car? Auto-x? Track? - Andrew |

First Car? Jesus Christ, learn to drive the car as is before you start throwing $$ at it. Its a pretty decent sports car right out of the box.

How much power do you plan to make that you need 265's? A good sticky 215 or 225 is PLENTY of grip.

![]() There's a whole wheel gallery with index and fitment guide. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7535 You're right about that, but learning some things without proper research can be rough when posting on a public forum. Don't take replies here too seriously.

I don't think you did much research at all. You need to do a lot more to fit those wheels and the camber you would run would make running 265s and be the opposite of "wanting as much traction as possible".

AdamBoudreau: for research opening post of this thread imho worth reading.
If it's traction, you are after, more worth getting stickier compound tires, then going that wide. The very widest one can stuff in under arches is more for (questionable) looks crowd, not for ones wishing most performance/handling. But well, it's your car and your money, and if it's wide tire looks you prioritize above anything, you are free to follow your goal. It will have drawbacks (will reduce acceleration, traction in wet and snow will get actually worse, car will be less fun to drive) and as you found out, you spent a lot on wheels and tires and may need even more spendings to suspension changes or even wide body kit (too lazy to check fitment charts of wheel directory thread first posts or Will this fit? thread posts for clearance), but to each his own. Imho best advise you got in this thread is Racecomp Engineering's one, even if it's not what you may wish to hear. |

One of the car mags took an earlier edition of the twins and did an experiment. First, they upgraded the tires, I think to Pilot Super Sports. Factory width, factory wheels. Ran laps.
Then they upped the tire size. I don't recall with certainty what size, but something in the 235/245 range. Ran more laps. The stock size PSSs were significantly faster than the factory Primacies. The larger tires were significantly slower than the 215/45 17 PSSes. Not as slow as the Primacies, but significantly slower than the 215/45 MPSSs. IIRC they were slower in all parts of the operational window - on acceleration and on the road course. They MAY have had a slight edge on braking, but it's been a while and, well, it's been a while. It seems to me you did the right thing asking for advice. You just got the order of operations reversed. Next time, ask for help BEFORE you make a move. I remember Humfrz telling a story about a Viking warlord he knew back in the day. The raiding parties were not returning with the goods as well as they used to. So, the warlord takes the guys aside and gives a stern lecture. "Look guys - this raiding party stuff isn't too complicated, but the order of operations is VERY important. First, you pillage. THEN, you plunder. And THEN AND ONLY THEN - burn." I get that right Hum?

LOL, this is you guys being nice?
![]() OP - Do what RCE Andrew said. It sounds to me like you should take the hit and sell your rims. They look nice and somebody will want them. That is unless you want to go for the 'stanced' look - you'll need a LOT of camber, room (coilovers), drop, and special control arms etc. to tuck with that offset/width. And at that point you're going for looks rather than performance. Or you could go rocket bunny ![]() Also check this site: https://tiresize.com/wheel-offset-calculator/ |

I think you guys scared him off.
![]() I'd just go with what Andrew said, and put good tires on your stock wheels. |
