EXEDY all the way for stock powered DD. Get the updated release bearing and Verus fork ( or new OE fork an minimum) and enjoy.
FJK1005 is the same clutch cover and clutch disc assemblies as you get from Subaru/Toyota with out the dealer markup. TYF001 is the EXEDY part number for the OE replacement flywheel, same flywheel as we supply to Subaru and Toyota for this application. |

Tried that, but it still locked me out of 1st occasionally. Never could figure out a solution for it.

Thats odd because all the clutch can do mechanically is disengage the flywheel, but apparently it couldn’t back off enough to release the flywheel, so first could be engaged. I wonder if it was because the LWFW is so light that minimal contact is enough to get it rotating, and maybe they designed it with tight tolerances so the flywheel gets rotating sooner so engagement isn’t as jerky, and at the track first gear will never get used, so occasional 1st gear lockout isn’t an issue. On many sports cars 1st gear engagement or lockout, and potential gear grinding is much more common until the transmission warms up. Probably a combination of fluids and tight tolerances. Again, with the racing oriented LWFW, this could get compounded. This is all conjecture, but a bad design is also possible. Last edited by Irace86.2.0; 04-04-2018 at 09:27 AM. The flywheel is bolted to the crankshaft.

Yeah the part about the light flywheel being spun easier by the "clutch" was a big red flag for me too. Otherwise I think he is on track in that the clutch isn't fully disengaging from the flywheel. It doesn't take much to make it hard as hell to shift. Bent fork or air in the line maybe.
