AT 155k miles, everything wants to fail

I can't even drive the car a week now without something failing after I get a component fixed. lol.

OBDII doesn't work. My check engine light came on and my stock headers sound like unequal length. The power is still there.

Coil Pack?
Faulty DI?

Ok, so I got a scan and it's a P000B, possibly the camshaft oil control valve bank 1 or timing chain. Where is bank 1 located? Left or right?

I believe bank 1 is the one on the passenger side (for USA cars).

Right side as you're sitting in the car.

Left side as you're facing the front of the car.

The drivers side if you are in Japan.

(or do I have that backwards .....)

Do timing chain tensioners need to be replaced on these cars eventually? hopefully its not a stretched chain.

You need some diagnostic software to see if the valve timing moves at all. If P000B is the only DTC, is it out of time permanently, or just lazy?

What do you mean by "sounds UEL?" Is it running on 3? I know you said still has power but are you sure?

I can't help with the diagnostics, but...
congrats on making it to 155K miles with that much power on stock internals!

Just got the OCV replaced and it seemed to fix the issue. I think it was what you said. The valve timing must have been really lazy. I was driving with the faulty OCV yesterday and would hold it at a rpm and the exhaust pulses would change the longer i held that constant rpm.

The UEL sound was from the out of spec exhaust opening angles from bank 1 which gave it the UEL header like pulse. When the car would go into limp mode correcting the discrepancy and it would sound normal.
With limp mode if you are boosted, it feels unsafe bc I think the fuel delivery values compared to compressor pressure are way out of wack along with everything else. lol

So the car is back at it again. The OCV replacement worked well for 1 week and now I got the same P000B code again along with P0014. Obnoxious. The car is running in limp mode now. The other 2 options now according to the repair manual is either the ECU or the OCV filter which is basically buried within the cam housing and looks like it requires the heads to come off to replace.
When the car is in limp mode, does it go back to a toned down stock tune? Or does it simply reduce timing? Is it safe to drive under boost?

I’ve got 240k miles on my 2002 IS300. But I also live in the largest city land mass wise in the US. Every commute I do is at least 30 mins. Go to the beach, 30mins. Take the kids to school, 30mins. Go to the mall, 30mins. Go to work, 1hour.

Mostly city on that car. Our office moved sines getting my FRS so now my commute is all interstate but all stop and go. My data logs show an average speed of 30mph if I’m lucky.
