Do you know if the blown engines have abnormal wear on their rod bearings upon tear down? I think it's possible that the oil film is being squeezed out when the oil pressure is low (low rpm) and torque is high. If the film is squeezed out then metal-on-metal contact between then rod and crank would sharply increase the compressive force in the rod.

I think it’s because there’s not much reward in revving past 5k rpm - which spoils some of the excitement.

For that reason you may have done better with a centrifugal kit. However, it then wouldn’t feel much different to stock at around 2-3k rpm which is where most normal driving happens..... Can’t win!!

Like you, despite these draw backs I would still recommend FI to anyone who knows they will be keeping the 86 for a while, and who isn’t goong to get carried away, crank the boost up and snap a rod.

Yeah that was part of it.

The Edelbrock didnt give me the kick in the pants feeling like you get with a turbo. But because theres added power all across the band, i couldnt get past 5k without already being at 90 mph. And seeing as how i dont hoon around a ton i missed being able to rev that high.

I agree, if i went with a JRSC i probably would still be running the kit. Only because when you do hit that 5k RPM limit, its almost like hitting Vtech (i had an S2000) which is really fun. Either way i think since most of my driving is in the 3-4k rpm range, i'd rather have the turbo kick.
