I did a quick search for isf engine noise and they have been complaining about similar noises. I would post a link but I am on my phone...

I wonder if it would be worthwhile to collect Yes/NO and serial numbers to find out if there is any correlation to a specific production series?

There isn't. It's a normal byproduct of the DI system (as has been explained by 50 different people 50 different times.). Every car will do it sooner or later.

The additive solution is interesting. I could see that working, but I'm not going to be pouring any extra junk in my fuel tank.

If you're asking this question, and you're seriously considering not buying the car because of an inconsequential little noise, then you should probably take your deposit back and go buy something else.

This car is much quieter than the Hyundai I had with DI. So I am pretty sure mine is not having the problem others are reporting. Sarcasm not necessary BTW...

Collecting data is a step to figure out what is going on since there seems to be several different opinions.

That's why I am going to "try", it's an experiment.

Can anyone with the requisite engine experience chime in on what effects using a very small amount of 2-Cycle oil in the gas tank can have on a modern car engine/fuel system?

If it could be considered harmless then I'll try using some at 500:1 to see test whether or not this lubrication of a washer explanation is accurate.

I noticed it for the first time today when I parked my car...had the windows down sitting in my driver seat and I could hear it. I am a little over 500 miles.

It will. Give it time, actually drive it and get up to temp

And that's kinda my point. Everyone seems to have a different opinion on what the issue is, but casually dismisses the official response from both Toyota and Subaru because they don't like the answer :\

Collecting data is fine, but if the amount of effort that's going into fixing this non-issue was put toward solving world hunger... I wonder sometimes.

I put in some top-end lubricating additive at my last fill-up. I made sure to fuel up when the crickets were singing. I was curious if this would have any effect on the crickets and, if so, how long would it take.

30 seconds. It took 30 seconds for whatever was making a racket to get the lubricant for which it was screaming.

I suspect any brand of top-end cleaner / conditioner will work.

There is still a sound of the DI pump but it's back to how it was when I first picked up the car. A sound similar to a diesel engine.
