I'd beg to differ on a slow experience with my 2017 AT GT86. I have a Delicious Tuned Edelbrock SC with everything running stock. The FD is still 4.1 like the older models, but I've clocked roughly 5.2sec 0-60.

The manual paddleshifts are FAST.. compared to a manual, I'd say they're really close to each other's performance.

I'd say it's faster than all but the most abusive upshifts. The biggest issue I have with the AT is that it won't let me downshift when I want to.

True, at certain speeds and gears, the ECU will prevent any downshifting that would put the engine extremely close to redline or after it.

I find that to be a double edged sword, but then again the sweet spot to downshifting (let's say 3rd to 2nd @ 50mph which is around 3.5k RPM is matched to 5.5k RPM)

With the Edelbrock SC being a highly efficient P/D blower, I've trained my body to ready myself for that surge in torque whenever that happens.

All in all, I gotta admit - the Dual Clutch Tranny in a boosted AT GT86 is badass

I meant to say the AT Manual shifts FEEL like a dual clutch automatic response like how the R35 GTRs and VW GTIs operate. They have a similar feeling IMO

The AT does shift very fast but you can shift just as fast in the MT. We are splitting hairs here but I wouldn’t be surprised if a flat shift in the MT is actually faster. Flat shifts beat the hell out of the syncros though. If you think the MT shifts slow then you need new friends. Hahaha

It's definitely driver dependent that's for sure

compare the best MT driver out there and arm him with the best quick shifter setup there is and just maybe by a fraction of a second be faster than the AT shifting.

All I'll say though is both are quick for today's standards!

Drop a turbo in your AT car and call it day. You have the longer gearing for it, and you'll probably enjoy it a lot more than you did before.

With an MT.....you've probably already enjoyed it as much to begin with(;

Faster than a slushbox sure, but a twin clutch? not even close

It is really funny and sad at the same time how a simple question could generate 2 pages without one single relevant reply. I didn't ask for turbo, about speed of shifting, what is faster and definitely not if Camry is faster.

The question was: why - and even if - AT drops power at hi-rpm, and where the AT loses power when the transmission is locked. It was a genuine technical question.
