Picture you are going around a skid pad- very smooth surface, constant speed, constant steering angle. In this situation how much are the dampers affecting the balance of the car compared to the spring and swaybars? |

The MP20 was the same dampers and calving so you can swap the springs to 60N happily if you wanted. Out of all my mods: Cosworth supercharged Custom quiet 2.75" stainless exhaust Ap racing brakes 720form wheels £2k worth of audio Ohlins .. the Ohlins are my favourite modification. On our uneven British B roads they excel at keeping the car stable, especiallly on bumpy corners. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk |

A 50 psi charge would result in a force on a 14mm piston rod of 12lbs. The load on the outside front in a hard corner might be something like 1200lbs.
And that's not even my point- I'm trying to create an example that reduces the number of variables. When you're going around a skid pad, the shock piston isn't moving very far, and isn't moving very fast, and therefore cannot generate very much force. Getting the balance right with the springs in the most simple situation seems like a good starting point to me. You'll notice one of our very active vendors who have developed multiple sets of coilovers and springs for these cars doesn't put softer rear springs on them. Well, anyway, if I have time later I'll say some good things about these ohlins and provide some actual reasons why they might spring rates they do. |

We really enjoyed the old Ohlins with 6k/6k (and then changed springs to 7k/7k) on our shop car. I just wouldn't personally run the soft 4k/3k spring rates on my car.

The Ohlins DFV has a specific function. It ensures the wheel contacts the ground at all times by providing stiffer and more reactive rebound. That’s why Ohlins used soft springs. The DFV is not found on any other shock, thusly other companies must use stiffer springs in an effort to increase rebound speed. But that’s just my theory... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

From what I can tell the dfv acts to soften the transition between the bleed and blowoff valves. So the knee is not pointy like you see on many high end coilovers.

Ah! I think ST coils have similar rates to the mp20, haven’t heard of them rubbing. My friend has ST on his E46 running 19x10.5 in the rear with 255’s and has it slammed, no rubbing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
