The chevrons on the West coast are a true 94, and are considered the best fuel available (at normal retail stations) in north america.

so do you go for a lower octane rating and have the car adjust (even says so in the manual) or go for the right octane rating but burn through gas quicker (or so they say)

i just filled up my first tank after leaving the dealership and i got 400km on 39 liters (petro can 94)

i've been a shell customer all my life though, so i'm gonna run with Petro for a bit and then switch, see whats up.

i have over 10K airmiles so i can get myself 1000 bucks worth of gas for free :/
91 for better milege
94 for more power/worse milege

simple!

I currently only fill 91, I prefer airmiles over petro points

But if the manual says 93+ than I would go by the manual

Bingo. My IS Requires 93+ but its not worth the extra $$ for minimal gains in power vs the better MPG

I have tried Pioneer, Esso, noname, and one other all 91 octane and they all suck on FRS. Ping,Ping, knock at tip in throttle all the time no matter how softly. Next I will try the 94 Petro for sure.

The same issue I had putting regular in my Mercedes ML and lead to 10 liters of oil disappearing in blow by oil changes time! Ping is not normal, dont care what the manual says, I am expecting some " dealer says a liter of oil every 1000km is normal' posts

First tank: 8.3l/100km (dealer-fill with what I am assuming is Shell 91)
Second Tank: 7.3l/100km (Esso 91)
Third Tank: 7.5l/100km (Petro 94)

I have to say that I would probably be getting the mileage out of third tank as well except I was stuck in a couple afternoons of stop and go traffic.

I drive an auto and am still in the break in period so I am not engaging in "spirited driving" but I don't do that many highway miles either. I think that for the price difference between the Petro 94 and the Esso 91 I would still go with the Esso...

As for Shell being the best gas ever...well...Shell V-Power certainly didn't live up to that claim in that first tank.

i put in Petro Ultra94 today. The engine seems to feel more smooth. I tried Petro 91 and Shell V-power before and the engine just seem more smooth today after I put in the Ultra94.

i'm on my 3rd tank of Petro 94, but only because i have an unused fuel savings card (20 cents a liter!) for 94 that i want to use up.

so far i'm at 8.04 L per 100km with quite aggressive driving, i'm very happy.

However the ethanol content bothers me as the manual says to say NO to ethanol.

After this tank is done i'll switch to shell, see whats up.

when you are using the ulta 94, do u have that engine issue, ie chriping noise?

No chirping here.

Then again my old car made so many engine noises that compared to it the FRS sounds perfect.

Chirping is usually a sign of something to do with a loose belt.

I used 91 from shell, so far I'm averaging 7.5 and as far as the chirping noise, I don't think mine has the issue. I do hear the engine noise when I open the Hood but I think that's the fuel injector sound and not as bad as the other post.

everyones averages seem so low, I dont know if I should be concerned or not! My average is 9.2L per 100 Km in an AT, driving fairly conservative but then I am only at 900 km...

there are tricks with manual that help save fuel

like coasting in gear, adding a bit more air in your tires

also where are you in Richmond, if you're driving up mountains all the time this will burn through more fuel

Here in Ontario you're flat pretty much everywhere.
