Friction wears them out. That is why more oil is flowing at higher revs.

Your "fact" is about wear wrong or at least far lesser that you seem to think. That has been my point all along but you keep throwing other things into the mix. I agree with the gas and that it isn't necessary.

Yeah that is fine. I drive it how ever you want. I think people are misunderstanding what I’m getting at. The OP asked if it was okay to run high RPMs. In summery I said it’s unavoidable in top gear without reducing speed. But if possible you should upshift to avoid wear and reduce fuel use. I’m not saying it’s going to blow the engine. Some people are arguing that it doesn’t increase wear when in fact it does. It’s debatable how much wear it adds just as it’s debatable how much wear double clutching would add or how much wear it will save on the syncros. If you like how it sounds at 4K then go for it. |

It makes sense to me as long as the oil is at the proper operating temperature and you cooling system is working properly, you wouldn't see anymore engine wear. Cold starts and driving short distances on a regular basis would do more harm IMO. Lots of people never leave the City. Those cars have had a hard life... The engines Diesel Garbage trucks don't last long. Stop, Go, Stop, Go...That, I do know. |

Over the life of the engine it goes from 0 to 7500 rpms so often that driving at 4000 or even 4500 is not going to increase wear.

Does higher RPMs add wear: yes How much: very very little But does it wear more: answer is still yes Does up shifting lower RPMs: yes Does lower RPMs reduce wear: yes How much: very very little Not a damn thing in there is debatable. Move on. |

Strange because a few posts back you agreed that technically it would but was immeasurable. Which I’ve already agreed to. We are all on the same page. At least I think we are. No need to be an ass with you’re “how gracious” crap. He seemed to be taking it personal. I was trying to deescalate from being personal. But you’ve done the opposite. |
