JRP FR-S/BRZ build up (regularly updated)

So here goes... Today we recieved the first shipments of the front and rear strut tower bars from Cusco USA and was excited to install them.

Since JRP has been in the Import performance business since 1993 the excitement for such a car is few and far between, but since it was a Toyota/Subaru combo it's the best of both worlds.

I decided to buy this car and as the GM of JRP I will be modding and tracking the car to learn and experience a fun car a again. (With 3 kids it's been a while since I had the Supra JZ80 making 750hp was the last car I reallly had fun with). Many still remember that car, man I miss it.

Here's how we installed the bars (Actually Desmond did, thanks buddy)

Here's the Disclaimer!!!! We are not mechanics, we highly recomend going to a professional for any and all changes made to your vehicle!! Seek professional installation.

The front strut tower torque specs are 23ft/lbs ( Thanks to Kenji from Cusco USA)

Make sure that the car is on a level ground and the chassis is "loaded" before installing the strut bars.

Install was very easy and linged up perfectly

Make sure to align the exsisting chassis braces to the firewall the bar goes "on top". All done and very tidy.

Notice the Subaru stampings all over the Scion, they went crazy with the Suby logo. (above)

(Below) The rear is a little trickier, you will need to remove the mat completely and the (2) clips on the inner side next to your rear seat on both sides.

The rear torque specs (again thanks Kenji @ Cusco) are 30 ft/lbs

You will need to make (1) small cut of the carpet on ea. side. In order to pass the brakets through. Take your time as there is no going back.

Here is a better shot of the rear passengers side, note that the cuts are cleanly done with a extra sharp carpet knife. Take your time here!


I am no racecar driver, and other than coilovers or lowering springs that obviously have a huge impact on the driver, like spring rates,lower center of gravity or something substantial to notice a difference I usually am not the one to notice subtle changes.

I can honestly say that the chassis definately feels much stiffer, the turn is is much more crisp and responsive to lighter steering inputs and a "more confident" feeling and response is noticed instantly to the chassis I would say.

Very good product, fair price, and quality that will last a lifetime. I hope this helps in people installing Cusco products or other brands in the future, definately worth the effort.

Could you explain what you mean by installing when the chassis is "loaded"?

Beside the coilovers, any plans? I was looking into getting the aFe intake but am now considering skipping it after looking at the turbo kit coming out.

Installing when the chassis is loaded means when the chassis is carrying the car's self weight. IE, don't install while the car is jacked up.

Chassis "loaded" means that all 4 corners and the total weight of the car is on the supension. Do not put the car on a hoist or jack it up on one corner to install strut bars or chassis strengthened.

This is really important in older model cars but still a relevant and a thing to remember.

The car will be built up with mostly bolt-ons to show the products we have to offer and try and document the changes in drivability,costs,easy of install so we can learn the chassis.

The point of buying and modifying the car is to better educate our selves as I believe this car (and the upcoming turbo version) will be our target market for some years to come. The earlier we learn the better we will be educated and educate our customer and their needs.

Depending on how soon, or not how soon the turbo comes or will ever come a engine swap will be in the works, but thats a fair ways away still......
