Reading the reviews of the tS for a week or so now, a theme develops. After some reviewers had their fun bitching about a lack of motor (which Left Lane didn't waste space on) they have to circle around and admit it's really a beautiful chassis.

I think it's funny that more than a few people like to say the twins are good cars to learn performance driving in (true) but with the implication that you'll be able to move onto more rewarding cars after that. That have engine over chassis? That are priced way out of your market? That only show their charms on the track but reward you with much higher consumables? I've had a couple of those cars, but I guess I've gone backwards. I did add some quick to my car, but I've been careful to not suck the magic out of the platform. Like Carlos Lago (used to do the Head2Head videos with Randy Pobst for Motor Trend) said in an early review of the BRZ, "If you think this car is too slow, go faster through corners."
F**k yeah buddy.

An extract from the following document:

Much of this lap time improvement has come from reducing the weight of the racecar from the 1204kg of the CS-V3 in ready to run condition. ‘All round, this car is 80kg lighter than the V3 car,’ Kroll says. ‘We took over some parts from the GT86 R3 Rally car like the doors and windows. Per door, the saving was 6kg. The original doors were really heavy so we filled them with foam on the rally car, and that has carried over.’

A lot of the development of the CS-Cup seems to have been a case of trading off weight against cost, something which can be seen when looking at the launch spec 2016 test car. It features a carbon fiber bonnet and boot lid (adorned with a large rear wing), and seemingly a composite roof, though in truth this is actually just a sticker, just for show, to highlight the lighter weight of the new car.

‘The car you see here is a prototype,’ Kroll says. ‘So some of the parts you see may change a bit. The carbon fiber hood, for example, will not be on the final car as it is too expensive, our aluminum version weighs just 1kg more. It’s just not worth the cost for a 1kg saving.

With some parts, however, the increased costs are offset by a bigger performance gain. ‘We have fitted a Super B lithium ion battery and that has saved 10kg,’ says Kroll. ‘The cost increase is worth it with the weight saving. The increased costs have to be earned. If you ask a customer for an extra €1000 for a 1kg weight saving, they will ask if we are crazy.’

Based on the mpg's it also has significantly more aero drag due to the wing.

Yeah this was stated in one of the articles. The Coefficient of drag is like .01 more.

Just called Subaru of America at (1-800-782-2783) and provided them my Vehicle Order Number (VON) to see an estimate of when the vehicle is set to be delivered. They provided me my Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and estimated that the dealer in Florida will be receiving it at the end of February.

Here is my dilemma, I am stationed overseas. I will not be back to the states until the end of April (2 months after they are set to receive the vehicle). I have already put down a $1,000 non-refundable deposit. I have excellent credit and plan on financing through Navy Fed. However, I am not sure how the money is going to exchange hands while I am overseas? My family is in the local area. I suppose I can give them my Power of Attorney so they can hand over the check to them. But then that leads me to my next problem. No one in my family knows how to drive stick. :| I wonder if the dealer will drive my car to my family's house so they can store it in their garage until my arrival. Or would they entertain leaving it on the showroom floor for 2 months?

I guess all these questions can be answered with my car salesman when she is back from vacation. Nonetheless, what do you guys think?

Also, SoA provided me with an 8 character VIN. (J#######) Shouldn't it be 17 characters long?

Being in the service, I'm sure the retailer will be happy to help you in any way they can.

As for the VIN, the last 8 are all you need to identify a car in our system. Your car will have a full 17 digit VIN, but for the ease of tracking it over phone calls, they just gave you the last 8.

I didn't know what a porter was so I google'd it.

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHRE5uEBWcc"]What does a car dealership porter do? / Lot Porter - YouTube[/ame]

Now I know. Thanks for the tip!

I'm guessing most if not all of the lost MPG is from the new tires.

We have color numbers!
"Of the 500 cars to be built, 225 will be painted WR Blue Pearl, 105 will be Crystal Black Silica, and 170 will be Crystal White Pearl."

"There’s a small serial plate by the shifter indicating the car’s production number out of 500."
Wait, what?

I think that's just an inconsistency in the article from their time in the Type RA.

None of the other reviews or videos I've seen mention it. I sat in both prototypes at Boxerfest last year and only the Type RA had a 000/000 plate in it.

That works.... not sure if there is a fee they charge. Or if you have AAA insurnace , they can tow a vehicle up to 100 miles (AAA plus membership) ... then just have the car towed to your residence.
