Was under the impression the DI seal issue has long since been fixed (Starting with USDM cal ZA1JA01C), and the DI seal failure threads have all but dried up save for a few guys still running the 2012 cals hard.

Thank you. I will look at DI as well.
ok i had experience on this issue , and i had replace 8 direct injectors until now

so to be sure about your injectors try to log the LTFT . normally it should be 0% to 8% max . in mine it jump up to 35% . it means my injector had short delay then what is should delay it .
but it is so hard to test which one is bad injector so Subaru recommended replace DI as a set

it is with ***j700j rom

as fa20a works with dual injectors per cylinder .so there are special timing for each injectors in one cylinder . from the logs the DI controlled for 2500RPM to 5000RPM

Did yours become more obvious over time?

yes it will be worst become bad injector shorter and shorter. LTFT will insurance but if your are with ***j700j or ja01j it will not throw cel about system leans coz the rom not include it

there are to kind of dmg with DI as i known the burn DI seal and it will throw pressure leaks in the cylinder and DI lost delay time without codes .

Wow my car does this too. I got the car with 80k miles in October and for the first month I was convinced it was rod knock. I have B01C flashed on mine because I read about the DI failures. Before I flashed it though it was on a pre DI fix cal. I didn’t realize bad DI seals would sound so similar to rod knock though.

I assume you can just replace the seals without replacing the actual injectors. Looks like a bitch of a job though. Curious if a leak down would reveal a bad DI seal.

I haven’t done anything yet. My car just sounds like the one in that video and I had no clue this sound could be caused by DI seals. I just did some reading and it looks like a cheap job and not as much labor as I expected. I may do all my seals just to be safe.

man I am so confused by this rattle. I took the car to a Toyota dealership with the issue I had and they let me drive a demo car with 3000km on it and it had basically the same rattles around 2000-3000 rpm range, considering the car is fairly new and a revised model (the one with new front grill), its unlikely that its plagued by the DI problem right. And yet something tells me this rattle is abnormal despite I have heard it on the demo car as well.. paranoid much? lol. So far, I managed to "eliminate" the sound by blocking the sound tube with the 12v power cap and I was suggested to do so by this gentleman's reply from this thread

Well if deleting the sound generator solved your problem then I guess it isn't DI seals in your case. I deleted my sound tube the first few days of ownership. So I know that isn't my issue.

My rattle turned out to be very minor. The return spring inside the clutch master cylinder will resonate from time to time. I just tap the clutch pedal while it's singing. You'll know right away if that's the sound.

I just noticed this a few days ago. this knocking sound comes at around 3k and only happens when I barely get on the throttle (like 1-2%). From what I understand, it is just the tune that causes this. I checked my data logs and it was indeed the VVT. as soon as the angle changed to anything above 35 at around 3k rpm, I could hear the ticking sound. Mine is not as bad as this but the concept is he same [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErpHXIr4BmI"]FA20 VVT Valvetrain Noise - Perrin Tune - YouTube[/ame]
