More so in an auto than a manual, due to the higher gearing in an auto for highway cruising, which slows acceleration.
Another benefit is compensating for larger wider tires with larger diameters (that would affect gearing, making it taller).

Are the gears 1 and 2 still driveable with FD 4.56 or is there only wheel spin with 225" summer tires?

They are still driveable.

is there a big difference between 4.556 and 4.875? im interested in the latter, since stock is 4.1, whereas 5.125 will be overkill.
is the cusco fd compatible with the oem lsd? im also checking out their rs lsd, but not quite sure yet. anybody has experience using both? |

I got a 4.5 going in to my AT in 2 weeks. Will have to break it in. Maybe in another month I’ll have a good review.

I have the 4.556 for more then a year. My mpg has gone up and combined with a header and the OFT v4 tune, the car drives like a champ.

Running a 6MT, had Gruppe-S headers and a tune done by Drift Office running approx 190HP. Added Weir 4.56 gears about a year ago, and though not a huge difference, it definitely drives better (higher into the power bands) so it has a better response and quicker off the line. Tires tend to break loose a little easier. It's been a fun and welcome improvement. I doubt their is a huge difference between the 4.56 and 4.875, If I had to do it again I'd give the 4.875 a closer look.

I basically posted this in the 1/4mile thread, but figure it may help win your FD swap question. This is using the gps device dragy, I have compared it to video runs and it seems to be consistently .1-.2 seconds slower (delayed). All in all seems pretty accurate.
57 degrees, 92octane, no weight reduction 1/3rd tank gas, with a 2500rpm launch with an auto. First 1/8th was flat, second 1/8th was slight incline. ET on 1/8th 74.98 and ET 1/4th 92.89, 60ft 2.35seconds (I’ve heard/seen dragy is really accurate but not for 60ft times) Grimmspeed intake, BPB, ace 250, header back, 4th e-tune revision, 4.556 fd swap. auto shifts to 3rd at about 54, and 4th at about 83, so not “optimized” for 0-60 / 1/4mile. But still at least .3 sec faster in both vs 4.1 fd which didn’t require that extra shift. Purely on feel it pulls harder, and before in the auto it still pulled hard to top of 3rd about 92mph, then shift to 4th and fall on its face. Now it pulls hard all the way in forth to 114, before falling on its face in 5th. |
