Just got my Tabs renewal for Everett, WA. Moved from Miami, FL 1.5 years ago and it was around $60 before i moved. With the insane tax increase this year it is $310. I called the DOL and they take the MSRP of the car ($25k) and "depreciated" it 4 years. This comes to about $21k. They tax that instead of the real 12k-15k its worth. Ugh.

My favorite part of them sticking it to us is how they don't make us get an emissions test for the first few years we own a new car... BUT THEY STILL CHARGE US FOR IT!
up to 5 years old...kinda silly but it has some logic since technically the emissions are already covered as part of the standards set on new cars

Seeing some of these posts, Florida's fees don't seem quite as rapey now. It was going to cost me over $1000 for the initial registration of my three vehicles in Florida until they found an old registration in the system from twenty years ago and knocked $200 off the impact fee. But then I don't have any inspections, and the annual tag fees are fairly cheap.

Also, as much as I've traveled around, this is the first time I've heard the term "tabs." Are we talking about tags/plates by another name? Or is this something different?
