Theres more then making sure your fuel system can supply enough E85 to actually run it. E85 will eat away at a lot of rubber fuel lines

I'm kind of confused as to why there is even a discussion about using E85 when the manual says:

●Use only gasoline containing a maximum
of 10% ethanol.
DO NOT use any flex-fuel or gasoline
that could contain more than 10% ethanol,
including from any pump labeled
E15, E30, E50, E85 (which are only
some examples of fuel containing more
than 10% ethanol).

This means the vehicle systems are not compatable with E85!
85% ethanol is lot of ethanol and if there are system components that are not compatable with ethanol, 85% sure isn't going to help?

Unless this discussion is about replacing the whole fuel system to make it E85 compatable. Not sure why you would want to do that for some the others reasons listed, like fuel from potential food, lower energy content etc.?

All of the USDM turbo Impreza's, Foresters, Legacys and outbacks, all have fuel systems that are not harmed by e85. They tell you not to run it because it doesn't have any system to automatically detect the octane of the fuel being run.
Its harmful because the car will run itself very lean. Not because it is going to eat through the fuel lines.

Now that we have tuning solutions maybe there is power to be had with E85 and a proper tune. Generally though it's the turbo cars which love it.

Well, with the large increase in fuel volume delivery required, the pump/injectors might not be up to the task for E85.

All new cars are designed for 10% Ethanol, it's been the law since at least the 80's after Ethanol was added to Gasoline following the Petrol crisis in the 70's. It was just recently reintroduced again in 2005 with the Renewable fuels standard. Rubber, cork, certain plastics, exposed steel, and non-anodized aluminum will corrode/break apart and clog the fuel filter or even the fuel injectors so they are no longer used. Even the fuel injectors need to be safe with Ethanol since they can start an engine fire if they leak, so it's a huge warranty concern.

As previously mentioned, we know Subaru's can handle E85 and have for years.
