If I read the phrase "performance package" one more time in the next 5 minutes in here, I'm punching a baby.

Edit: My big issue is that I've noticed too many of the guys out here half ass their work, and don't overly care. I assume it's because they've had people who also half ass their work train them. The amount of things I see daily from these guys blows my mind. Stuff that is in direct contravention of our procedures manual, and frankly, I've had enough of their attitudes about it. It's not ok to do your job wrong and get an attitude with me when I tell you what you're doing wrong. I don't give a flying fuck if you have a masters in electrical engineering, I'm fairly certain they don't teach you how to do this field work at university. Surprisingly, in terms of the field staff, I'm about fourth most senior, and for the most part, I know what's right, and what's way wrong. I say more way wrong than right from this guy in the past two days he's been here and I need to correct that. |

But, I have found that there are effective ways to instruct people to do the job correctly, without demeaning, belittling , embarrassing or discouraging them. It does take patience and it can be quite challenging, especially when you're under pressure to complete a job or project within a specified time period. With your knowledge and experience, I'm sure you will be able to refine your technique to become an even more successful supervisor and then on up to manager. Hint: Each trainee is a different individual and responds differently to different supervisory techniques. humfrz |

Before going into a situation with an idiot who doesn't do a good job, you should define what you want to achieve. Do you want to blow off steam and make your subordinate angry and resentful, or do you want him to start doing a better job? I'll assume the latter. Then ask yourself how you can manipulate your subordinate to do a better job. If you don't possess sufficient psychopathic traits to do it naturally, there are books and websites to read. Start here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psycho...l_manipulation Subordinate manipulation often includes lying to their stupid faces ("I see great potential in you.") and pretending to be a nice, caring person ("Since I like you so much, I'd like to show you a few tricks on how to get things done quicker while keeping the brass off your ass by making the result look right.") These things requires practice, but can also help with girlfriends, wives, and other difficult people in your life. The most important thing is to practice your sincere and warm smile. Spend time in front of a mirror. Always squint your eyes when you do your fake smile. It makes the smile look more genuine. |

Sublime application of your decades of experience, that! I can't pull it off, but I recognize it.
