The turbo uses a Garrett GTX3076R CHRA with a custom SBD housing, yes I understand the kit is on the cheaper side of others, but users seem to be happy overall with it. I'm waiting for my stage 3 Comp clutch to arrive so I can do everything at once, probably going to install everything this weekend at the shop. Over the weekend I got to talk to some people that have had experience with turbos and tuning for a long time and they gave me a better understanding of the tuning process and what the tuner will do. I will be buying Shivs e-tuning service this week. Shiv has been tuning this kit for awhile now, there's data logs of his tunes on the SBD owners page and they all look very consistent. I think you guys might have misunderstood me, I didn't explain myself very clearly. This was the first time I've dealt with putting a turbo on a N/A car and definitely the most money I've spent modifying a vehicle in my life. I have already compared the kits and I chose this one, personally I feel like its the best one for the cost, you will disagree, but that's fine. Just needed some re-assurance from you guys about the tuning aspect, maybe someone that has dealt with Shivs e-tuning service recently.

Cool man, but do yourself a favour and make sure you get a proper tune... that is really NB for any FI!!

Well, the project is coming along quite well besides the mess, stage 3 clutch is installed, as well as the turbocharger and the coolant and oil lines. No major problems so far with the install, I got the pre-welded oil pan with the kit. The bung is welded on the driver's side of the pan and the 45° fitting they sent me points directly at the header. I swapped that out with a 90° fitting and it worked great. I also had to clock the turbo in order for the oil return to clear the manifold flange, no big deal. I paid for Shivs e-tuning service Friday evening and sent him an email directly after that, still waiting on a reply. Looking to have the kit done this week and hoping Shiv replies soon.

Awesome! My experience with shiv is that he has a 2-3 day turn around with tunes.

I've been seeing some mixed opinions on here. Also, I messaged Shiv and I'm going to be using his custom tuning service, I know he's worked with SBD before so he should already have the base map ready. Kinda worried about it though, I won't be getting consistent logs since it's not on a dyno, have you guys had experience with this? Really feeling over my head a little, I understand mechanics very well but never dealt with tuning a turbo for a NA engine.
why would you ever consider tuning a FA20 turbo setup yourself when you can just buy a tune and be safe and done with it.. the tune will be the cheapest part of the build

That post was misleading. I will not be tuning the car myself but using the OFT e-tuning service. I just felt unsure about how to data log and what data to look for to ensure my car is running safely after the tune.

I ran with Shiv's tune on my Evo IX. All I can say is, it worked. The thing was a beast.

Looking forward to seeing more of your progress!

Thanks for posting.

So, the kit is installed, minus a vacuum line and the WRX PCV valve(should be in tomorrow) I still haven't heard back from Shiv, and I'm starting to get a little impatient, it's been 5 days since I paid for the service and sent an email. I called three times today and no one answered. I know he's super busy, but he could at least shoot an email about when he can get to me. The suspense is killing me, I just want to drive this thing already

Can't you start driving with a base OFT tunes for SBD kit while a fine tune specific for your datalog is done?

Yes, but the tunes available in that link aren't supporting the Omni 3-bar MAP sensor which is already installed, dunno if that makes a difference.

How's progress with Shiv?

I have to apologize. I made a mistake on my last post, I actually did not work with Shiv, it was Vishnu. Vishnu was awesome. I don't know anything about Shiv. Sorry.

Car is completely back together, Shiv finally got back to me last Thursday night and sent me the base map. I didn't get my STI PCV valve in time so I drilled out the stock one and rigged up a catch can and capped off the port on the manifold for the time being. I programmed the car on Friday and test drove it, the car runs great besides running super rich. I sent Shiv my first data log Friday night and have yet to hear back from him. Since then, I've been easing the car around to break in the clutch and using it to drive to work. So far so good, just sucks to wait.
