is it too late to put down desposit now for a BRZ?

since rumors had Subaru only supply 500/ month to the U.S. during the 1st year, will it be too late to put a deposit down and expect to get a car during this summer?

Start asking around at local dealerships. I know there are places that haven't filled their entire allotments, I'm sure there is somewhere out there that can get you in one by summer.

Also don't forget about the people who put down deposits but when the time comes to buy, ultimately decide to get something else or wait for the STI or something.

Not sure about summer. Realistically I don't expect to get mine until July or August.

As far as I understand, the initial allotment slots are for delivery between May and November. I have no idea if that will be spread out evenly, or lumped toward the early part of the year. I'm just not getting my hopes up for a May or June Delivery date, but I think I am like 8th on the list out of 22 at my dealer.

There's no way the entire dealer allotment will show up in May. They will be spaced out evenly, my dealer is getting 7, so I'm assuming 1 a month. I'm #2 on the list, so I expect June for mine if the first ones show up in May. Find a dealer where you can get a decent spot on their list (in the first half of their allocations), and you should have it before the end of summer.

I really hope it isn't one per month. I'm number 7 out of 7, so that would mean an awfully long wait.

They won't all show up in May, but they will definitely show up in groups, or waves. Its just a question of how big a build batch they send our way at what time.

Well they are building cars everyday, they need to space them out somewhat evenly, if they promise a dealer 7 and deliver all of them by August, that means that dealer won't see another BRZ till the winter or spring. Their will probably be a small burst early this summer from all of the excess BRZs they have stored up since they started producing them last month, but once that surplus of cars is elimiated and they go back to just keeping up with demand, they can only ship them as fast as they build them.

Since you are in SoCal, try the Riverside Dealer, apparently there is only one person with a preorder, so you can be #2 and possibly get it by summer... I read this in the Preorder thread

I understand. I'd just rather be able to offload my current car sooner rather than later to maximize its resale value. Ideally I'd have my BRZ mid-summer.

I feel like a lot of people are going to get impatient about taking delivery of their cars....

As long as I get mine before snow starts falling I'll be happy. I've got the Audi until July and I can drive my MR2 from then until November if need be. After that I don't have working heat or winter tires.
