Cant decide if I should just paint mine or wait for some overlays.. I dont particularly trust my painting skills and would hate if they came out uneven or blotchy..

You did an excellent job!

Most people fuck up and paint them black where they are too dark.

if you don't trust your painting skills id say some overlays and be done with it. No reason to experiment on brand new taillights on a brand new car.

I took the risk and painted it myself.

Process
Prep clean Mineral spirits with nitrile gloves
3 light layers VHT NiteShade Red
3 passes heat gun in between each layer
1 Heavy layer VHT Niteshade RED
Wet sand 1500
Wet sand 2000
5 layers Krylon clear coat
3 passes heat gun in between each layer
2 heavy layers clear coat
Dry for 24 hours
Wetsand 2000 grit
Hand polish rubbing compound
Wax

tip: if you find specks of dust in between layers. do not touch it. let it dry a little bit more and with passes of the heat gun. then use Masking tape to pick off any specks of dust before proceeding to spray more layers.

I might remove the wax and polish it with a portercable as i don't feel it is glossy enough. if all else fails I'll bring it to a shop for a coat of clear coat.
