Power window help

Hello everyone!

For starters, I drive a 2013 FRS, second owner.

I had an issue where the passenger window would roll down, but wouldn't come back up, with the indicator light on the switch blinking every time I tried to work the window.

I took it to the mechanic to see what's up, and have the window set so I can open and close the door at least until I get new parts (if needed.) He said I need a new switch on the door because it crapped out due to the previous owner being a smoker and all that. So I said okay, I'll get one from work, as I work at a car parts store.

Now that I'm at work and reading on the forums, I'm seeing that I might just have to reset the programming on the windows by doing the button holding bit, because the light is still blinking, ergo the switch still might work.

I'm afraid that if I try this and it doesn't work, the window won't roll back up, and I'm screwed until I can get a new part and go to the mechanic again.

I live in Canada and it's like 5 celsius or less, and supposed to be wet this week.

Thoughts?

Do the reset it will work fine.
Not sure how being a smoker ruins a switch.

Idk, something about rolling the window down and getting moisture in there? It didn't really make much sense to me either honestly.

I'll give it a shot when I get home, just in case it decides to shit the bed.

perhaps

Perhaps lack of ash tray and cold temps outside had the chain smoking passanger rolling down the window constantly to flick ashes off and rolling them back to keep warm ???

The only one smoking was your mechanic, and he was blowing it up your ass. There are two switches for the passenger door. If the window behaves the same way for both, then there's nothing wrong with either.

I'm with Tcoat. Zero out the limits before assuming anything's actually wrong.

Yeah, I figured since it was doing it on both switches, and they were both still lit up and blinking, then they're not broken and the circuit isn't interrupted like he said.

Haven't done it yet; my natural womanly paranoia makes me afraid the window won't roll up when I start the reset. (Because the original problem is that it won't roll up.)

I read somewhere that if you do it on the driver's side window, it resets both windows, which doesn't really make much sense...

Just to make sure, you put the car with power to accessories but not engine, roll down til you hear a click, then roll back up til you hear a click, yeah?

Nope that isn't how it is done.
You have to hold the buttons UP in the sequence below. You have nothing to fear in trying it.

Tried to do the reset.

Fiddled with the button on the passenger door and it wasn't responding despite blinking. Tried the one on the driver door that corresponds to the passenger window and it didn't do anything either. Tried the reset sequence and it didn't do anything.

Not sure if the mechanic didn't reconnect it properly, or if something is actually fucked.

Does it go up some and then stop? If so, does it do it the same way every time?

Does it sound/feel like a jam, or does it seem electrical, like it just dies?
