Oh gods but does that Quadrifoglio look good too. Slower off the line. Faster overall. A bit bigger. A lot ~3.5" wider. More usable back seat. A lot more power. Famed Italian reliability. Much better styling. Better ride quality. Better dynamics. Not AWD. No plowing in corners. First world problems. I better lose that 10 more lbs so I can get one or the other. The Porsche Mission E won't be available for years.

You mean you wanna pay VW more for a golf R by getting a RS3 and feel good about the audi badge at night?

And feel good about the RS badge by day.

If not in a hurry then wait out the WRX/STi on the new platform (supposedly next year). After driving the wife's new Impreza I think the performance versions on that platform are going to be something special. I HATE CVTs but the next gen version in her 17 is much, much better and I actually enjoy driving it. It could be worth the wait.

I hear that the STi may be kill after next year's run. Supposedly a "Final Edition" is coming.

Possibly but I doubt it. Subaru themselves stated that they would be changing both the WRX and STi over to the new platform by 2019 MY. Maybe a "final" edition of the current version?

That's what I'm thinking, at least what I'm hoping. I really want there to be a new (or a used one within 2 MY of when I decide I'm done with the FRS) WRX to shop for.

The RS3 is much quicker than the Golf R in both cornering, drag times, and street starts, with a nicer interior and magentic shocks to boot. The half liter the Golf R loses is huge, even after a tune. The RS3 competes against the C63 S, not the Golf.

Well, I certainly like Subarus. I just don't think the Impreza with a bigger engine is going to satisfy me. I want some luxury again.

Read up on the new Impreza's features. The top trim levels can compete with some of the mid level luxury cars. It is easy to forget it is a Subaru. I wouldn't have believed it until we test drove one.

This all day... The RS3 has also caught my eye recently thanks to ARP who with a tune and E85 was running 10's in the quarter mile. While I'm no drag racer (I'm a cone dodger) that sounds like loads of fun. At it's base price ($55k) it seems quasi-reasonable, but that sucker options past $60k super quick...

The only must-have option is the Dynamic Package for $1450. It adds a louder exhaust, which I can skip, but also wider front wheels and better looking wheels overall. Cuts the understeer. Beyond that, the options are techy, driver aids, and cosmetic. So staying close to 55k is doable. ~65k with all the bells and whistles a person would realistically want.
