This debate is inevitable as soon as somebody throws up there are "more" practical cars. Depending on what you need there are. That does not make these impractical though. If you have 12 kids, 3 dogs and make your living delivering newspapers you should not even be considering these and there wouldn't even be a conversation about it. If you need it for just you and one other person (or three others on that rare occasion), don't need to haul stuff around, like good gas mileage, have to park in tight spots, want to have the maneuverability and speed (yes, speed) to avoid hazards and want a just plain all around good DD then there is nothing at all "more" practical. Fiestas, STis or any of the hot hatches may be more convenient for some things but that does not make them more practical for many uses. The most all around practical vehicle made would be an AWD, crew cab, pickup but that would be ridiculous for me to haul my laptop and self around for 40K miles a year and to transport my two grandsons a grand total of about 2 hours a year. In my case (and probably about 80% of truck owners that just use it as a car anyway) it would be the most impractical vehicle ever.
Preaching that XXX or YYY car is generally "more" practical is like trying to argue what colour is better.

Holds 12, resists small arms fire, can park anywhere you bloody well want, is German made so parts can be bought cheap online. You may need to get some E Torx sockets though.
