If you don't have service department anxiety, you will now.

Background:
I've NEVER owned a new car or a sports car. Saved up and waited 12 years to buy something fun. Whiteout FR-S rolled off the truck with 10 miles and I bought it and garaged it. On Tuesday I had XPEL Ultimate Film installed to further protect my garage queen. I HATE taking my cars to other people because I feel like no one else takes care of my things like I do.

Damage (see image below):
Ever since I got it I noticed that there was a rattle coming from my rear deck so I convinced myself to take it in. I did a little investigation myself and discovered that one of the third brake light tabs was also broken. So with 150 miles on the odometer, I take my car into get service. I return after work to find that an "incident" has occurred. I was told they were pulling it into the service bay and didn't realize that one of the lifts was too high. The porter then decided to back up, caught the top of the rubber on the jack on the bumper, and didn't stop until there was a large tear. They "aren't used to cars this low, sorry!"

Next Steps:
They are going to order in a new bumper and have to repaint it and then pay my XPEL installer bill for reinstalling the film. The rattle still exists, the third brake light retaining clip is still broken, and as my wife pointed out that I had to get a new bumper before I even went through one tank of gas. Good thing I bought the Toyota Care extended warranty--looks like I'm going to need it!

Should I be concerned about the bumper paint longevity since it will no longer be factory?

Here is a pic of the XPEL film being installed before the tear.

That sux dude.... but at least you know why the bumper is busted and it'll be fixed.... I'm more curious about why the brake light tabs are broken!

It appears the factory installer forced it down which bent the tab backwards.

Make sure you do get the exact same paint. White paint is tricky. (they charge $220 more on the new car.) Some job looks the same immediately after. But i a few weeks, the difference is obvious

Depends on quality of the shop. I had my front end on previous car repainted after accident. There were about 10x + as many rock chips in 20k miles than the OEM had in 60k.

I'd request diminished value for damaging a brand new car. If it's had bodywork, it's not worth as much; it doesn't matter if it looks as good as new. Just my .02.

Oh man, unforgivable. Being your first new car with that many miles, that tear might as well have been your heart. Worth blacklisting this dealer? Or maybe we'll see how they handle the repairs. Sorry bro

That doubly sux for you man.... I hope you're getting a replacement brake light under warranty as well.

On the bright side of things, at least both of the damaged pieces are (relatively) easily replaced and not integral parts like the roof or rear fender.....

It sucks man, but keep things in perspective. This is just a car, and they're going to fix it. There are plenty of bigger problems out there worth stressing over, but this isn't one of them.

Diminished value? I wouldn't think so for what's being done. No one is even going to know or notice after it's fixed.

They'll probably end up having to respray a third of the car just to get the paint to blend professionally...seems serious enough to me.

Be patient and have a new bumper shipped from Japan.
