Exhaust too load
Hey guys. Need some help here. I am having a hard time keeping my exhaust tame. I have a Tomei EL Header, Motiv Overpipe, Megan Front Pipe and a Stock Catback. My car is loud and raspy. Has anyone tried an HKS Resonanated front pipe or the jdl? My car was quite as stock until I changed out the front pipe and went catless. Any help here would be great. Open to any suggestions. I just want the car to be more quite for driving around town. I use a Berk track pipe for when I feel like being annoying but I don't want to always be annoying.
Thanks! |

If you have a stock catback then you don't even know what loud is.
As for making quieter yes any sort of resonated / catted front pipe will quiet it down some. Stock is obviously the quietest front pipe.

Oh I had a Tomei 80r before going to stock lol. It's more raspy than anything. Really just want it to not rasp like a Honda

Everyone is different of course but I've found my combination of OFH + stock OP/FP + P&L catback is a real winner in sound level.
The P&L catback is just slightly louder than stock, and combined with catless header it is loud enough to get noticed when cruising but not close to approaching obnoxious unless I want it to be. So, I guess I'd suggest going to stock FP and getting an aftermarket catback if you want it louder than that. Having at least one cat really helps smooth the sound out.

Some tracks now require maximum sound levels, and we have used Car Chemistry inserts.

the catless FP with no resonator is the problem. Resonators change the tone and filter out rasp. You could punch out the second cat and put the OEM FP back in place. You could go to a muffler shop and have them weld in a resonator into the Megan FP, or something into the midpipe

Right now I have a HKS EL, nameless over/front with HFC and stock cat back.
It is quiet, but raspy. I have a Perrin 2.5 cat-back non res going on this week. Simmons

From what I've read resonators don't make things quieter they just get rid of undesirable tone. That's what mufflers are for

Muffler, resonator, they are the same thing. Both alter sound via resonating it. Does a single small bottle style resonator reduce volume a ton? No, but it will reduce the volume some. A dual resonated front pipe is the best bet for reducing rasp and volume while retaining the track pipe.
