Well, since they didn't have video games or TV back when I first became interested in cars ....... I had to build my first one. The second one, my grandfather willed to me.

I can't think of any single car that got me hooked, but when I was a kid, my dad hung out with a lot of guys in the antique car club. He didn't own a car, but enjoyed machining parts for them....I was drawn to the hot rods, and lead sleds, and that hooked me.

Not to waste time, but I remember watching a Married with Children episode, "Turning Japanese". I got a dollar an hour increase at work so an escape vehicle was even closer within reach. To present day, resale or even appreciation was always raised in consideration deciding.
I have to say even today, there are a lot of bad, bad men in places designed for grown ups. Maybe because it isn't a fair fight. Although some woman are obviously right, there still is an element of altruism. |

I owned a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS as one of my first cars (after my '85 Jeep Cherokee died), and it basically thrust me into the sporty car world. Love how it drove (and sounded since the previous owner removed the cats). It was gorgeous looking and made me want to know more. As well, Forza Motorsport was also a playing factor.

Honestly, I don't remember NOT being into cars.
My Dad was a shade tree mechanic who never took his car to someone else for repair and never had a new car so he was always tinkering with them. He also was a dirt track racer for a while in my younger years so there was that. Hence I have the "need for speed" built into my DNA. It wasn't so much cars I was into but what they represented that endeared them to me. They were freedom, a way to get out on my own and do my own thing far enough away making me independent.

The first car that sparked my imagination was the 4th generation Pontiac Firebird, specifically the Trans-Am, with the big ram air hood scoops. I was 9 when I first started seeing adds for it on TV. I was so excited about how cool it looked, I was certain that one day, I would own one.
I got to drive one when I was 16, at the Bridgestone Racing School, which meant I got to drive the crap out of it... And loved it! The first car I ever bought was a Pontiac Sunfire, in 2-door, which was as close as I could afford. By the time I could actually afford to buy a Firebird, I was so pissed at GM for the way they had treated me with the last two cars I had bought from them (long story, involving a G5 Pursuit) that I made the decision never to buy from them again. Kinda put an end to that dream... |

My neighbor had an old Alfa Spyder that I loved even when I was really little. There is a video of my in it trying to turn the ignition over and messing with the shifter when I was too young to remember.
It's wasn't super clean like this since it was a driven car and not a show car but it was sweet none the less.
