![]() ![]() I take that moogle from your hand for 500gils(Hi-Potion).Back to topic, I'm not trying to argue with everyone, but electric battery is really the way to go, since fossil fuel will be diminished in a few decades. As the time goes on, the price of the electric cars will go down as the newer technology being developed. Only time could tell.

My guess is that if they do make a hybrid, it'll be purely because of the Japanese market. They eat up hybrids over there, (even crappy ones like the CR-Z, hah). In its petrol form I think the FT86 is destined for failure over there cus' conventional sports cars seem extinct.
That said, I'm still very meh on battery-based electric cars/hybrids. Unless they come up with something more elegant than a giant li-ion battery slugged underneath, I'd rather the industry go the route of diesels/bio diesels. Or hydrogen if they ever figure out a practical way of creating/distributing em to make it cost-effective. |

First post!
I think hybrids can work on sports cars if they cut the battery size. Honda's IMA I think adds like 100 pounds or something which isn't too bad, but if they used a smaller capacity Li-ion battery the weight gain over a standard car could become almost negligible. Personally I think the move towards plug in hybrids is at best premature. The power density of the best batteries is still pathetic, and charging will never be as fast and convenient as pumping liquid fuel into a tank. The battery should be able to hold just enough charge so the battery doesn't overcharge under say 90% of braking scenarios, or maybe enough charge to store the energy when rolling down a mountain road. With continuously variable lift, timing, and duration valvetrains coming in the near future, cars could start seeing much less of a performance hit from fuel saving measures. Part of the reason hybrids are perceived as slow is because the companies intentionally limit the power for more extreme fuel saving techniques, and to cut cost. For example the prius engine revs to only 4k rpm or something ridiculously low, and is permanently stuck on late closing valves for thermal efficiency. Combined with the lower displacement, this makes a cheaper, more efficient engine at the cost of a lot of power. A lot more power can come out of that engine with more advanced valvetrain and a slight efficiency decrease (since the amount that the timing can be altered is probably somewhat limited). There is a downside though, and that would be cost

Regardless, I stand by news does not equate to rumor. Don't get them confused. On topic, hybrid sucks. VW polo gets 50 mpg? Is that a hybrid? lol

What?
Ive been following this car since back in 09, of course I dont find this dull. All I was saying is we have had limited official info/news from Toyota since back then, so there wouldnt be much official stuff to talk about. This is why we talk/speculate about non official news/rumours.Quote:

To be fair I get bored of all the "useless and annoying" scion talk and the I wont buy it unless its 300bhp+ club etc. The sooner this car gets released the better. Then we can concentrate on talking about the real/good stuff |

It might just be me, but I get fed up of people posting every rumor they find on this car. Theres a new one every week, and it's based off information we received ages ago . . . or just current trends.
Hybrids has been discussed previously, and check out the date of post.. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ghlight=hybrid And please note the first reply as well. Understand where I'm coming from?
