QuickJack setup and testing with my BRZ

After years of using jacks and jackstands on my cars, I finally "upgraded" to a more automated unit. I picked up one of these QuickJack car lifts recently and put together a setup video. Of course, I am testing it out on my 2017 BRZ

FYI, I got the Quickjack pinch weld blocks for my BRZ, since well, it has pinch welds at the jack points.

These work much better than the flat blocks I had in the video. Definitely worth it for our cars.

I have been considering getting one of these for winter storage of the car. Lift the car up. Remove the wheels and tires slide them under the car and leave the car up for winter storage.

I would just use jack stands for that, tbh. But, a Quickjack would work for sure.

That might be nice for the tires but it's not good for the suspension bushings. They are at rest with the suspension loaded and strained hard when the chassis is lifted.

Just park it.

Removing the wheels and tires takes all the load off the suspension so only weight on it is the knuckle itself. Hardly enough weight to do any damage to the damper or bushings imo

In the past that is what I have used. I would use the quick jack more or less just to get it up there and as a place to store the quick jack that is out of the way when not needed for my other 3 cars. When I need it for my other cars I would just slide the jack stands under it while I am using the jack.

Agreed:

When storing my vehicles I inflate the tires to the max listed on the sidewall. This helps with flat spotting and makes it easier to move the vehicle if needed. (No need to removes jacks etc). Also ensures your spring/shockers etc are not being stressed for extended periods of time.

I'm not talking about weight, I'm talking about the angle of the unloaded control arms and links. All those bushings will sit torqued for months. It's like storing rubber bands in the fully stretched position.

Gotcha. Well I shall have to do some more research then before this winter. I have stored it both ways in my 4 years of owning the car so far so good.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's the end of the world. Just something to consider.

It is best to not leave the suspension dangling even with the weight reduced. It is not designed to be unsprung for long periods. If anything you can take the wheels off and place some blocks under the hubs to hold the suspension where it belongs but not have the whole car's weight on it.

it was my understanding that you don't want to keep air in the tires for long term storage and that it was better to get the car off the ground and support the hubs? I may be wrong as I have not really had to store cars for a long time.
