When I bought "Blue" I also ordered four Esco Jack stands. They come with flat rubber platforms that cushion the pinch welds. They also make for a REALLY stable platform when working under the car.

So, I've considered making something like that, and I determined that I would be more worried about the car tipping forward on the pucks. That's a lot of vertical lever arm for a short lateral distance to tip. Though maybe the picture angle is deceptive.

I get you but once the weight of the car is on it, believe me. It's solid as a rock on a rubber mat. Squishes way out.

You do understand that the rubber pads are flexible enough that they give at the weld and disperse the weight across the whole surface right?

I used it for 3+ years on my car, wrenching on it almost every weekend because I was running the car "safely" at the track without "abusing" it at 3000-6000RPMs and the pads totally fucked up my pinch welds. Here's a fact for you: I used it for 3 years and it never bent the pinch welds. About the only thing it did was start stripping the paint due to excessive use. -alex |

I've been using Esco jackstands and they work great. No damage to the pinch welds. If you're really worried, you can even slot a hockey puck and place them on top (although I haven't found a need to).

The main issue with bending the pinch weld comes from lifting at that single point with a device that pulls out away at an angle as the chassis is lifted. I wouldn't think twice about in gently resting both sides onto those stands. ![]() Thanks, @Capt Spaulding and @DarkSunrise, for suggesting those.

You might as well just use flat jackstands. Same thing. |
