The naive perception that tracking a car is abuse
I've now seen a few people on this forum assume a car that has been tracked has been abused.
Meanwhile, modded cars seem to raise few concerns. Tracking will add some wear to your tires and brake pads. Cheap consumables. Otherwise, it means responsibly driving it the way it was designed to be driven. Modding a car often means fucking with something (FI, etc) and should be viewed with much more skepticism. One is using the product as intended, the other is desecrating and abusing it. This is why guys will gladly buy a car that was tracked a few times a year, but will never touch a modded car with a 10-foot pole. What exactly do these guys think happens during tracking? Are you confusing track events with hooning, donuts, burnouts, drifting, and other stupid teenage shit? Track events are carefully controlled driving, often with a trained instructor. Do you know why track guys spend bucks on track tires? They are very sticky. Unlike ricer drifter videos, you don't slip and slide on a track unless you're about to go into the wall. Most hoonigans destroy their cars much worse in the Dunkin' parking lot. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeVFqxTt4ag"]Buttonwillow Raceway 13CW - BMW E46 M3 - 1:58.6 Lap - GoPro - YouTube[/ame] Prolonged high rpms and extreme heat ? Your four sessions typically last 20 minutes each. If you have never tracked your car, and conflate tracking with drifter hooning abuse, do you think that tracking means driving at redline or something? Watch (and hear) the RPM readout in this video. He's between 3k and 6k, like you're supposed to be. Does this look like abuse? Does it look any different than what you do on the back roads every day? uh wat? tracking a stock 86 may not be straight up abuse like not changing your oil, but you would have to be a fool to think an 86 truly used for track duty wouldn't have overall more wear and tear than an 86 used all for regular DDing with equivalent miles...if you are racing/tracking you should be trying to push the car as hard as you can otherwise what is the point? you have only 2 K of revvs to work with between 5.3-7.3 K RPMs to keep the car in peak power and you think we should be driving 3-6 K on the track?

Nobody says a word about tracking being "abuse". The statement is that tracking puts extra stress on the car. It does.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121755 If you are driving exactly the same on the streets as on the track you are doing one or the other wrong.

2,000 miles of tracking is vastly different than 2,000 miles of street driving. Get real.....

Have you ever driven on a track? Trust me, you don't have the ability to drive the car at peak power or push the car as hard as you can.

Convince the dealership of this, and then we'll have something to talk about.
