Was this the thread where people were claiming that skipping gears is bad for the gearbox? I found that assertion to be ridiculous.

It's possible that the OP got a car that just happened to have issues with several different components and the failures were unrelated and he's just unlucky. But it's not likely.
Almost everybody I meet with serious car issues, cause the issues by their lack of maintenance and care. The exception being Fiat-Chrysler products that just fall apart for no reason by design. People don't realize that doing or not doing something just 1 time can ruin a part. Maybe not today but it will. the perfect example is a transmission. They have a vent on them and if that trans is submerged just once (that puddle doesn't look so deep!), even if the car makes it through the event and seems fine- the damage is already done and that trans will shit the bed sooner or later. We all make our own problems. That said, the TOB is a known weak spot with this car (IMHO it should be a recall and the part re-engineered) and the crickets are a known and I do not feel bad for anyone affected- you should have done some research, it's only a noise. The grinding gearbox and synchros- I always suspect the driver over anything else. Learn to shift. |

I don't fell like flogging through multiple pages of posts but would like to comment so I may be repeating.
Crickets are well documented and just part of the experience and if you did your homework you would have known this. If you bought your car used there's a good chance the previous owned enjoyed launching, donuts, etc. Try another sports car and these issues will seem minor plus repairs are not even comparable to BMW, Porsche, etc. For the money it's a great car and over 40 years of owning sports cars I can vouch for this |

You assert that double clutching is needed to preserve synchros yet think that skip shifting is a great idea? Or should I say you think you would wear out your "dog teeth". Oh dude what are you on anyway?
