This car with the AT is perfect in some people's mind and if they feel it is a better DD for them then why say they are wrong? Could the car have a "better" AT? Sure. It could also cost $10K more. At the design specs and price point it is supposed to meet the AT is pretty damned good.

Considering an AT
Quote:
I suggested the GTI precisely because it's a similar price point and because it's universally regarded as a better daily driver - and that seems to be why everyone here with an AT chose that transmission; because they want a better daily driver. You're just arguing with me for the sake of arguing, as usual. And again, for the last time, I haven't told anyone they are 'wrong' I've asked out loud why these AT lovers wouldn't just consider a different a car with an even better AT. I have yet to get an answer, just childish remarks from you Tcoat. You don't drive an AT so maybe pipe down from here on out old man, looking for legit feedback from those who actually bought an AT. I am not arguing anything but simply asking you to clarify your statements. You are presenting your opinions as facts so be prepared to support them. Please point out my "childish remarks". I think I have asked perfectly reasonable questions based upon your statements. It doesn't matter if I drive an AT or not I also have an opinion on them and just because it is not the same as yours it does not mean I have to "pipe down" on anything. I think you have received legit feedback from the AT owners. They LIKE it.

Ya those Chrysler CTVs are the worst of the worst! World of difference to the newest Subie one.

Read what they already said. It is still only YOU that says it is an inferior transmission when used in this car. Why would somebody that has a love affair with Mazda inline fours not consider other cars with inline fours and buy a car with a boxer? Disagree with me all you like but no more personal attacks. If you want a slander war I will win.

So if anyone other than Tcoat wants actually give me some insight into their AT purchase and why they didn't consider other cars with better ATs, I'm all ears.

This post sums up the AT choice perfectly. There is no reason for anybody to have to explain their reasoning nor why they didn't pick some other car. It is a personal preference and that is the end of the story.

I have this sneaking suspicion that many here doth protest too much when they are "defending" their choice of MT and almost demanding that AT drivers switch to MT. I don't care which one you choose, like, buy, drive, etc., just get the one you want. That means MT or AT. It is rather disingenuous to expect someone to buy a different car than the one they selected, just because one or more other people think it has one feature better than the car they chose. My caveat is that I have not bought one yet - still checking them out, but I have driven several of each (MT & AT) to evaluate them. I find the AT on this car quite good and the manual shifts are clean and quick - faster than anyone can do manually. That is important to me because I am considering this car for road courses, where every split second counts. The MT was fine too, and was no trouble to drive after the first feel of the clutch. People should get what they want, for whatever reason, and drive it the way they want (within the law!).

I selected the car first, transmission second (or third, I did pick color second). Transmission was selected because I like the novelty (to me) of the paddle shifters and when driving both did not see enough difference between the two for me to insist on a manual. Either AT/MT would have made a fine DD as far as I'm concerned, and my entire family (wife, 3 sons) all can drive sticks so that wasn't an issue. Other cars I was considering at the time would have all been manuals because in some cases that was the novelty (CTS-V Wagon anyone?) or because it was significantly better as a MT (Camaro, Z cars, etc) Plus I wanted the classic sports car look the 86 has, not a "hot hatch" or whatever the GTI passes for these days. Also didn't want a "bathtub on wheels" Miata (albeit a well handling one).

Driven the AT version extensively, one of my good buddies got his AT FRS before I got my MT. And for the last time - I'm not shit-talking AT owners! I'm (still) waiting for someone with an AT to tell me why they chose it over ANOTHER AT car, not a MT FRS. And I'm genuinely curious about that because I've driven some amazing ATs that put the FRS' AT to shame. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
